The romance works extremely well, with Kaluuya and Turner-Smith having amazing chemistry, and the direction and score are wonderfully moody. However, it’s at least twenty minutes too long, with a few of the detours dragging, and the political message seems muddled at best. Can’t wait to see what Matsoukas does next.

Stunningly shot and strongly performed, but its meandering story fails to sustain a driving pace and the film feels long and occasionally directionless. This lack of urgency, a sex-violence parallel that seemed terribly unnecessary, and far too many conveniences diminish the effect of a still provocative film.

Very stylish and certainly timely, and the way our protagonists are gradually forced more into a role while still becoming more themselves is beautiful. I'm just not sure it knows exactly where it's going with the actual plot; at times it seems almost like an unironic Natural Born Killers with Mickey and Mallory as unequivocal heroes and martyrs. Both the public image of what happens and our main characters' reaction to it could have added more, but the film just settles for tragedy.

Killer soundtrack with stylishly captivating cinematography and a solid romance. I was pleasantly caught off-guard by the beginning plot of the film. I liked the update to Bonnie and Clyde. But it quickly became lost in its own plot. The protest scene was jarringly out of place and the movie for me didn't really handle race issues well. The ending is melodramatic and predictable but the journey was refreshing. I loved Turner-Smith's performance. She stole the show for me.

A well-styled and timely take on the Bonnie-and-Clyde archetype, Queen & Slim forces us to reconsider what that myth even means in contemporary culture. Led by great performances from Kaluuya and Turner-Smith, the film lets its main themes sit just below the surface so that the tragic lovers stay central, not becoming shouty or preachy over telling a good story. I found some editing and pacing issues towards the end of the film, but overall this is a very strong outing from a new fresh talent.

Yeah, given Melina Matsoukas's professional background, the film's music video sensibility was more than evident, but it still managed to get under my skin in a way I never would have predicted and its titular leads have incredible chemistry together. A shame about its lame ending which unabashedly shoves the film's obvious message even further down your throat.

The premise is really cool, the themes it's trying to explore are relevant, and the performances from Kaluuya & Turner-Smith are fantastic. There's some clever writing, the story is engaging, & the lead characters are fun to follow. But, there's just something...missing. I never truly felt anything, apart from perhaps at the very, very end, and I'm not quite sure why that is- the romance element didn't really work for me, either, & the pacing is awfully slow. It's fine, but not spectacular.

Melina Matsoukas is a great visual stylist. There are, no doubt, great images throughout this movie. It's not a great movie. I wish it was, but it's so laden with plot conveniences. It has an emphasis on the surface, and rarely sinks deeper. I was hoping it would be great, and that Matsoukas' career would flourish from here. I still hope for the latter.

It's a sleek and gorgeous movie in parts. The performances are great but it's pretty limp in its "message". THE GOOD BLACK COP SAVES THEM LMAO PUKE (until they meet their ultimate demise )

The characters tellingly lack names for much of this gorgeous and captivating film. Approach the film as a legend or fairytale, rather than expecting realism, and you will enjoy it more.

A blast to watch but obviously a very woke liberal take on race. Protesting kid inciting violence, every black cop being good, benevolent white couple, etc etc. We need to talk about the Daniel Kaluuya effect where everything he stars in automatically feels leftier than it is just because of his two breakout roles. Visually a bit generic, leaving the door open for Dev Hynes to steal the show with that soundtrack.

A contrived, over-stylised, and overlong film, littered with superfluous musical sequences and clumsy characterisation. It's narrative ranges from being predictable to downright nonsensical, and by the end of its runtime I wasn't sure what I was supposed to glean from any of it. A dud.

What was the message? There could have been a much better story to tell here if only they spent as much on organically developing the advertised support as they did on the stylish elements of this film. Dumb decisions on their part. Police were comical especially with the SWAT raid and at the end with the multiple "this is your last warning." Fav scene: the sex/riot juxtaposition was done well but again, I didn't feel the message.

As a debut feature, Queen & Slim shows a lot of promise -- it's got a great look, a bluesy mood puncutated by small moments of intense emotion, and the seeds of meaning and punch. If Matsoukas can be more daring next time around, we'll all be talking.

Great at parts, really slow and unnecessary in others. When it focuses on tension it shines, but while the detours of having fun are good for character development, they really detract from the film. It’s far longer than it needs to be, and it’s easy to tell which scenes feel like filler. As others have said, the plot contrivances are also a bit too common. Still, it starts and ends pretty well, and the performances are good.

aka: "Tinder Thugz". A meandering bore. An hour in, my heart sank as I realized I had to sit through another 75 minutes of this...ugh.

It works well as just a solid black Bonnie and Clyde film, because for the most part it's solidly paced with good performances and some emotional depth. I don't have enough characters to get into the social commentary but it's pretty basic, perhaps even uninformed at times (as many of these movies are). To its credit though, it doesn't get bogged down in the messaging and some of it is true, even if I cringed a bit at times. Could have been more clever, but it's entertaining enough.

Tension is the key word here. Intentionally hits close to home with current events. Definitely worth a watch.

If it's touted as a Bonnie & Clyde movie then we should pretty much know how it's going to end. Only this movie makes you slough through it all at a predictable pace. Also: Bonnie and Clyde were assholes. These two were just trying to survive in an America that can't outgrow its racist past. At least the acting was great. To tell you the truth I was in this for Jodie Turner-Smith. Damn you, Joshua Jackson!

A well made and well-written movie. Despite the very tragic circumstances, it was a beautiful movie that felt genuine and realistic. The characters were excellent, authentic, and topical. Most of the music was good. The ending was a bit predictable but sad and maddening nevertheless. In spite of the heavy-handed political message, I enjoyed watching this and can easily recommend it.

Arkasında dayısı olanların sonu her zaman kötü biter.

Didn't appreciate all the exaggerated liberal propaganda bullshit, but it is definitely a good film from an entertainment perspective.

Queen and Slim go on a date together. While in the car, they are stopped by a police officer for a minor traffic violation. The situation ends in a great minor after which Queen and Slim have to flee. Under the desperate and dangerous circumstances they find themselves in, Queen and Slim get to know each other better and develop a deep bond.

The script is good here except for a couple of instances. There are a number of exciting scenes in the script. The cast does a great job especially the 2 leads in this movie. Overall I would recommend this film.

Looks beautiful. The start of the movie is tense, with the altercation with police turning into an escape. Those long roads, gas stations, bars, the constant doubt of people recognizing you, all of that was good. I really love movies involving road trips + escapes from the law. It drags on a bit too much in some points and I didn't always get the characters. Queen seems to switch from one personality to another, from a set of values to another, and I could never quite get grasp of the character.
