Quiet Days in Clichy

A time capsule that captures the era of the sexual revolution while misogyny was still deeply ingrained. The gratuitous sex scenes come off like a poorly shot porno with rapey vibes. The narrated prose (from the novel, I assume) has its moments. The cinematography shot in the city and in the music club is actually good. I also liked the instrumental parts of the soundtrack. These positive moments cannot, however, overcome what is a terrible film and it’s disturbing treatment of women.

A dull piece of pretentious smut, which is supposed to be an adaptation of a novel by Henry Miller, dressed up as an art film, but is only an excuse for boring and overlong sex scenes. If I was to read the original work I may be very disappointed with it but I think there would be at least an attempt at more depth than simply thrusting buttocks.
