At times this movie is incredibly hard to watch. Unlike most war movies, this hides most of the bodies and showing of the killing. Instead we're left with the feeling of hopelessness in the grand scheme of things. The movie moves to an inevitable feeling that starts in your gut and then keeps growing as the film goes on. It's not predictable, instead it's heartbreaking. A beautiful film and Jasna ?uri?i? is amazing in it as the lead.

Devastatingly immersive, almost documentarian at times. There is nothing of a typical film about this—no traditional structure, no blood or guts, no craft showcase—and the result is a powerfully empathetic look at a truly horrific time in history. If there's a weakness, it's the English direction, but that minor awkwardness, as a piece of the rest, just comes across as people speaking an unfamiliar language—which is what it is, after all!

Devastating, powerfully moving war drama turns and explodes on Djuricic's remarkable performance as wife, mother and fierce advocate, though Zbanic deserves much credit for her deliberately paced screenplay and direction providing the backdrop for her powerful, even ghoulish spin on FAIL-SAFE/CATCH 22 tropes (a climactic moment even wrenchingly reminds of SOPHIE'S CHOICE, without the cheery resolution!) Just a marvelous, haunting compact drama unlikely to be equaled for the 2020 film year.

The Toblerone. The fucking Toblerone broke me. The comfortable illusion of neutrality smashing into the inevitability of what we KNOW our actions, or lack thereof, will lead to.

Absolute powerhouse performance by Jasna Đuričić. This kept my stomach tied up in knots while intermittently socking me in the gut.

If you’re not keen on watching something that will stress you out and get your blood boiling, you should see this anyway. I found myself getting distracted by how bothered and angry I was getting seeing these predicaments, with the officials clearly not doing what they say they're going to do (or doing what they said they wouldn't do). It becomes increasingly involving as it goes on, though is ultimately a political drama that's a tad limited by not having enough of a personal touch.

Jasna Djuricic gives a great performance in the challenging role of a translator, requiring her to act equally well in English, Bosnian, and Serbo-Croatian. The whole film rests on her shoulders, and her performance more than makes up for small structural and story shortcomings. There aren't enough good roles for women in this age range and there aren't enough stories shining a light on this dreadful subject matter.

Feels incredibly inspired by past holocaust and genocide films, with visual nods to films such as "The Pianist" and "La vita è bella" and the relentless intensity of "Son of Saul". It's a strong and assured piece of work, that managed to keep me engaged despite not knowing anything about its subject matter.

Easily one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen, there are many moments and perspectives on war and suffering that are eye-opening, along with the heartbreaking, stalwart expression of familial love expressed by the main actress in the face of inexplicable evil.

Typical European political drama concerning the tragic legacy of modern wars -- and actually not diving too much in historical reflection, but just a personal, emotionally ravishing story --, but I don't mind that if it manages to hit so many good scenes thanks to Jasna Đuričić's wondrous performance.

unrelenting escalating terror. regardless of whether you know of the horror of this war, and the massacre depicted in this film, you will not escape as the helpless observer as it unfolds. jasna đuričić's performance is perfect. listen for similarities in language between the murderers in this film and those calling for and perpetuating the mass murder of civilians in gaza.

if you like films that incite you to feel a deep sense of anger and injustice then this is for you - the fact that these crimes were committed so recently seems really jarring for me, how Bosnians live side by side together in the modern day after this I don't know. Really enjoyed the kid's school performance at the end, and the teacher's persistent smile watching on, something really powerful in that

Rather well made with a suitably solemn approach. I'm not sure about what I think of the decision to extremely water down the horrors of Srebrenica. I suppose the film might have otherwise looked like manipulative torture-porn, but it barely scratches the surface of how heinous the Serbian crimes really were, instead treading water in some areas. Ultimately quite effective, if a little flat in the middle.

Knowing what will happen and still not being able to believe it, when it does... what a heartbreaking, cruel, evil, universal concept!
