The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment, the future '[REC] 4 Apocalypse.' Unremarkable and at times a bit embarrassing. That's the only thing me and Rec 3 have in common.

Sacrificing the POV-camera ensures higher production values but it deflates the tension. Plaza's ambitions clearly lie in the gore department - which is sort of fun. I disliked the religious element as well as the moment that it led to, and I particularly liked the one where the bride wielded a chainsaw. But maybe that's just me.

Having set the bar for low-budget found footage horror films, I was surprised to see Plaza and his team abandon the franchise's distinctive foothold in favor of a standard shooting style which doesn't exactly evoke the claustrophobic intensity and ever-mounting dread of its predecessors. That said, I'm glad I stuck around to witness the sexy Dolera erupt into a chainsaw-wielding, demon slaying, ass-kicking machine and provide the film with its buoyant, short-lived momentum.

A weird, campy addition to a very serious series. This movie in no way connects to the other 2 movies and the only new ideas it brings to the series lessens the fear one could have of the demons. It's not because its different that it's such a bad movie, its that it can't even pull off campy. Instead jokes fall flat and a "story" trudges on underneath.

Clearly, Paco Plaza was just making a movie about a zombie infested wedding and decided to ride Balaguero's coattails and acquire the franchise's fans. But that's what sequels often are, I guess. It's not the abandonment of the first-person photography that changes everyhing, as much as the injection of humor and romance. Lots of horror films do that and it only serves to lessen their effect. The zombies veritably pause their activity during the romantic scenes. I still quite enjoyed this.

Ditches everything potentially interesting coming out of the first two films, in favour of a highly generic outing peppered with weak humour. The most interesting thing about it is that it is the 400th movie I have seen at the cinema.

Under-appreciated & misunderstood. People are up in arms that Plaza ditched the handheld feel from the previous two, but I thought it was brilliant... who isn't sick of that style? Any true fans of the zombie genre will see this for its originality and fun throughout.

Hey retard, you know what made the other 2 REC movies interesting? That handheld presentation gimmick , so let's just drop that and make a shitty scyfy channel movie. what the helllll were they thinking?

Triste !

With "Genesis" in the title, I was surprised to find that Rec3 is taking place after the demonic infection has spread to outside the quarantined building. The new outbreak is at a wedding where the "happy" couple is forced apart in all the havoc and must fight their way back to each other. It is visually gorgeous, but unfortunately it mostly feels like a stand-alone comedy horror. So let's hope the 4th (and final?) installment will be better and bring more to the overall story than Rec3 does.

I just wouldn't have expected REC to go total B movie on me and completely change its tone. I mean, there are some good bits toward the end, but you've got to witness laughable knights in shining armor and Sponge John before you can get to it.

I have never felt more trolled by an opening sequence as with this film. I was willing to tolerate the incredibly slow buildup in hopes of what was to come but when the action starts the POV is thrown away in favour of B movie silliness and awkward misplaced humour. Knights and sponges and wedding dresses with chainsaws take this straight to parody levels.

They handled the transition from found footage to a film the best way they could, but it also defeats the purpose of this film series. Still, this is a bad film.

The tonal shift that accompanies the change from pov style for a more conventional style results in a frankly hilarious movie at times; makes you wonder if it's a parody of hollywood horror or simply inspired by it.

The first film was not a bad film, the second was cashing in this third one, although not bad, is the worst. There are some scenes that are worthy enough to justify watching it but all in all it is poorly scripted pap.

I went in expecting a cerebral and terrifying horror like the first 2, but I was given something much more campy and ridiculous. However, that's something I welcome. The found footage wore itself thin in the 2nd film, and I'm glad they went with something different, even if I didn't expect it to be this different. It's certainly self-aware of how ridiculous it is. Add characters like Atun and SpongeJohn, and we get a brilliantly fun and entertaining romp in the same vein as The Evil Dead 2.

I'd heard that this movie took things in a pretty different direction from the other two, being more action/comedy oriented. So even though it was something different, I was still pretty excited for it. Unfortunately, what we're left with is now a pretty generic zombie movie, with a small religious twist. It was a pretty bold decision to drop the found-footage motif, and I can respect that, but it's kind of weird how the title of the movie now has nothing to do with it.

Wisely abandons the increasingly farfetched found footage gimmick about 10 minutes in to instead offer straight-up zombie action (albeit not with enough chainsaw). A few good gags, a few decent splatter scenes, but it almost overstays its welcome at 71 minutes. The 30th time the leads tell each other they love each other, you'll beg for the zombies to get it over with. In the end it'd probably have been a better movie if it hadn't tried to tie in to [Rec].

[REC]3 Génesis is the most enjoyable [REC]. The problems of the earlier films are largely subverted, leading to a more enjoyable movie. Fans of the first two movies might struggle with its change in tone and for dropping the found footage cinematography 20 minutes in, but if you weren't sold on [REC] beforehand, this might be the one to convince you. It's campier, but it's just as scary -- and with traditional cinematography and much better lighting, you can tell what's going on. [REC]3 is fun.

Completely abandons it's found footage concept in a rather flippant way to make an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The lead does look like a sexy, gothy Shelley Duval, so it has that going for it.

I thought this was okay. It had very little connection to the first two movies and could probably be watched as a stand-alone without confusing the viewer. You might even get away with watching this one before the other two without giving much away.

I actually liked some of the jokes, but man was this a huge disappointment. It becomes just a predictable zombie film after switching the tone early on in the film. It wasn't a bad waste of time, but you're better served by skipping it.

the bride with the chainsaw was awesome but the fact that they moved away from the style of the first two movies makes it just seem like any old zombie movie. Characters wernt good and besides the one scene involving the chainsaw there wasnt any good gore...ending was good but its just an average movie

What was once a serious found footage series becomes a somewhat campy, silly, let's-kill-some-zambies kind of film, but that's not bad. It's well shot and knows how to have fun and when to raise the stakes. Very lovable if flawed. Atun...

Should have come on Criticker to see what I was in for with this movie. I loved the first 2 and was looking forward to the 3rd installment, and boy was I surprised. They took such a different spin on it, made it silly and "comical". It had nothing to do with the first 2. If you like the previous ones I'd say stay away from this one. I'll add this to my list of movies where the 3rd was awful and just pretend it doesn't exist.

Not as bad as people say if you take it for what is rather than expecting a formulaic sequel. I like that they went more for a black comedy, over-the-top Evil Dead 2 balls-out angle, although I expect Rec 4 Apocalypse will return more strictly to the franchise's root.

I kinda hated it. It abandons the found footage style after the first act, which would be fine if the direction was any good, but it isn't. I held out hope for the film right up until the suits of armour came into it. The whole thing just devolves into a below average zombie flick. The comedic elements were totally lame & unnecessary. All of the characters are idiots & the actors aren't any good either. I found myself simultaneously amused & angered at how incredibly stupid the entire movie was.

First off, I don't exactly see how we get so much new information that ties all three parts together. I felt this was very un-rec. I enjoyed that it was not shaky cam all the way through even though the movie lost most of the feel of the first, it doesn't have that eerie claustrophobic atmosphere of the first one. That said, as a standalone zombie flick, it's enjoyable and has some really funny scenes (will zombies blend?). Definitely worth a watch.

Oh wow. Holy shit. It's almost a shame that they had to release this movie as part of the [REC] franchise (in fact, they could've stopped after the first one), because this is a very different kind of movie. This is Army of Darkness meets Planet Terror, and it's entertaining as hell. It starts out a tad slow, but once it gets going, there's no stopping the blood, gore and hilariousness. The ditching of the hand-held gimmick is one big middle finger to the audience, which is great.
