Hearing all about this on film twitter. Verdict: ludicrously fun. It's like you order dessert and get a sundae and you're eating it and its a fuckin great sundae. The servers come back with a milkshake, great milkshake. Then come back with creme brulee, great creme brulee. At this point you say "This is all really delicious, but I only ordered the sundae." Then the server is like "we pride ourselves on OVER delivering on deliciousness." You eat it all and probably throw up a couple hours later.

Uninhibited cinema with all the highs and highs (there are no lows) of pure storytelling passion. Maybe a cooler head could have edited it tighter, but a cooler head could never get near this project without becoming as hot as its two stars. Unrelentingly entertaining, it demands investment and pays it all back a hundredfold at each incredible turn. There’s no distillation here - it’s pure magic chugged from the source, and a little bit of messiness and silliness is just part of its spell.

Male friendship!!!!!! Everything before the intermission is pretty much the perfect movie and while the rest slows down a bit it still ain’t no slouch. Heart-wrenching performances and deliriously fun action and music sequences shot gorgeously. I don’t care about the propaganda side because honestly I’ve lived in England my whole life and it seems like a fairly accurate depiction

Critiquing this film for its mustache-twirling villains, super patriotic imagery or utter lack of subtlety is beside the point, because the bromance of the two leads (which never sinks into toxic territory!), the bombastic presentation and the utterly insane action (and dance) sequences are such a joyous sight to behold that the three hour runtime flies by in no time.

It's nearly impossible to rate something like this. "Madness" seems to be the only word to apply. A true blockbuster popcorn flick, revisionist action torture porn with the British as the Nazi vamps they kinda actually were, and a tedious brain-scrambling ultra-nationalist epic drama. S.S. Rajamouli is becoming a master in genre. Starring Melania Trump and Produced by Michael Bay and pretty much Nick Cage's dream.

Does for the British Raj what Inglorious Basterds did for the Nazis. I do wonder, though, if the ultra-hyper-nationalist tone would be so easy to just accept uncritically if I had any idea of the modern context of Indian politics that this was released into. I suspect it's actually rather unsavory and I just lack the background to understand why.

The logical conclusion of the continued dumbing down of movies over the last couple of decades is RRR, with it's mustache twirling baddies and hyperactive action scenes that have no regard for how the real world works. Everything's amped up to 11, then nitro boosted to 20, resulting in something that's so far removed from reality that despite it's serious subject matter it's hard to take it on any level other than a Roadrunner cartoon. And 3 hours of Roadrunner is too much for any sane human.

As a piece for a dumb Canadian to enjoy this succeeds so hard. The over the top action sequences deliver. There's critique of the British Empire as a foundation but the emotional core is the relationship between these two friends. Seriously, for as amazing as the action is, there's a really compelling story that is paced well and managed to tug at my heartstrings. Musicals are my least fave genre but even the dancing worked. This is SILLY, but one of the most entertaining flicks of the year.

As an anti-colonial message, I can't take it seriously and it has a pretty daft image of Indian independence movements. However, the narrative is bombastically stupid and I love it! While the pacing is somewhat of a slog at times, the film is so full to the brim with crazy and inventive action pieces and over the top caricactures that it never managed to bore me. A lot of scenes play out like something out of a Chad meme, and I'm all here for it!

Splashy, extravagant (typically Bollywood) production is fun for about an hour, with the film almost maintaining its tension between the absurdity of its scale and the emotional lives of its characters; becomes too much of a good thing, with some impressively staged action scenes becoming too noisy and hectic, and even starting to resemble a video game once the CGI becomes more noticeable in the later stages. Quite well performed, and Stevenson and Doody are a terrific set of hissable villains.

It is extremely fun and definitely worth a watch for its epic scale, elaborate set pieces (both of the action and musical variety), and fun characters. What rubs me the wrong way though is the film's proagandistic undertones. I'm all for anti-imperialism but the film bashes the British in such a way that it also very explicitly stokes the fires of Hindu nationalism. I don't know enough about Indian politics to really comment on the messaging beyond that but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth.

The pacing in this movie is just impeccable. I wanted to leave to use the loo and get popcorn, but I just couldn’t pull myself away. The best part of RRR is seeing the enthusiasm at its heart. Have I seen better T/Bollywood films? Sure! Have I seen a T/Bollywood film - schucks, any film these days - remind people of what a pure joy cinema is? Not only was this the breeziest 3-hours in memory, in a film season full of 2+ hour monoliths, this was the only one I saw people dancing in the aisles. These dudes fling motorcycles like cricket mallets. Naacho naacho.

Absolutely ridiculous and over-the-top, but beautifully shot, the way I like my Bollywood movies. Cartoonishly evil British villains and plucky Indian supermen opposing them aren't new, but the bromance dynamic they got going here is super-nice. Weak point: 'female main characters, what are those?'. Strong points: nice story twists&turns, and a strong Every Frame A Painting-element. A lot of loving craftsmanship here.

At first I thought, this is like if Zack Snyder made an anti colonial film but had a sense of color and fun. However, it became clear that there's a lot more heart, character and culture than I originally gave it credit for. If I described the set pieces, they'd sound ludicrous. Thankfully they lean into the bit every time and it always pays off.

This is a lot of fun, but almost plays more as a parody of an action film than an actual action film. There are so many parts that are unintentionally funny (in mostly a good way). Listen, I hate being a killjoy, but this wasn't for me. This was a slog to get through. The overblown nature of the production, while endearing at times, is mostly exhausting to endure for three hours. And listen: the action is fun at times, but the excessive nature of the violence eventually starts to feel flat-out gross and irresponsible; it's as if the filmmakers have no greater regard for human life than the despicable antagonists we're supposed to hate in the film.

Overall, RRR is just a whole lot of fun. There's a lot of drama, crazy action scenes, tigers and wolves running around causing carnage. There's a lot of emotion in the bromance between the two main characters and the whole movie is just damn pretty to look at. I just wish it hadn't been so long. I get it's an epic tale, but in the end I was just kind of waiting for it to end and my interest was fading out. I would have worked fine with just a bit over 2 hour runtime for me.

Every once in a while an Indian film comes along that reminds me just how FUN and JOYOUS movies can be. While I have concerns about this film's potentially problematic role in propagating Hindutva nationalist propaganda, this is simultaneously both the best musical and the most unhinged action film I've seen all year. Radically revolutionary, bombastically campy, visually gorgeous. Micheal Bay only wishes he could make action scenes this stunning.

A completely silly power-fantasy of Indian liberation, but a very sympathetic and entertaining one. The movie sets itself apart from many others trying to tell a similar story by focusing on "the hero's journey": motivations, suffering and meaning is everything. It's not a boasty nationalist screaming contest, but a re-evaluation of the Indian mythos with 100 yr hindsight. It has a clear time and place, hints of historicity... but should not be seen as history. It is aspirational entertainment.

Absurd, overlong, wildly over-the-top and features many of the tropes we would expect from a Bollywood/Tollywood epic. But as spectacle, RRR scores, with dazzling set-pieces. It’s most sensational sequence, involving a boy, a bridge and a train, is a jaw-dropper and is never quite topped. But there’s so much warmth, so much charisma oozing from the superhuman leads, so much energy in the music and beauty in the visuals that the cliches, and relative predictability, can be overlooked.

Amazing fun and emotions. The CGI team could make a Bolly/Tollywood's own Avatar with a bigger budget, and the action scenes are just beyond anything that Hollywood has balls to do. Bollywood always has extraodinary cinematography and music. It's a rare occasion that I watch one of their movies, but I am always amazed at the sheer art they put into the audio-visual experience. The pictures you see are real art, and noone in Hollywood can use background music so effectively to tell a story as in India. I love all this. Sadly it also has really out of the place dance scenes too, but if you can take that then this is a very solid picture. Recommended for everyone.

Takes away some of the immersion for sure. A true spectacle , and the over the top zero respect for gravity or physics throughout is part of the charm albeit too frequent for my personal tastes, it is done on purpose. RRR is amazing when it tosses aside rationality and goes full homoerotic bromance. Physics and logic drop to their knees at the feet of these towering, musclebound dance-bros. The now famous Naatu Naatu scene is a scene for the ages. If the movie had kept that energy for three hours RRR would be the best movie of the decade. Instead it needs to bring the story home, dampening the broperatic flame at its center to complete the plot, and ends up "only" being the best film of the year.
