Rain

For anyone who loves a rainy day.

Watched this high and intoxicated, like any proper Amsterdammer with a sliver of self-respect.

Rain makes things wet. Doesn't do it for me.

Kinda beautiful. Rain pulls us together, and pushes us apart; the true character of a city comes alive when it's being drenched with water.

I can respect what it did, and how it did it, because back then this would have been a lot harder. And it's not without some beauty. There are some wonderful shots. But I dunno, If this was like 5 minutes I might have really liked it... as it is, it comes across like the opening or ending scenic shots of a film, that eventually lead into something. I know that's not the point, and shorts are good for exploring ideas like this, but I also can't sit here and say I enjoyed most of this.

Pleasant enough to look at and apparently challenging to shoot due to filming normally halting at the first sign of rain. They managed to film the beginning of a rain shower which would have been much more difficult then than it is now. I think this one is more about how the people in the city react to rain. [Watched during documentary film class]

A nicely orchestrated, and slightly alternative, city symphony.

Like so many older shorts, this is a movie about very little. Maybe if I had never experienced a rainy day before...

poetic and beautiful.

Really picks up from the half-point, then becomes trance inducing. A landmark in documentary film, wonderful depiction of rain. Sadly, it is dated so it does not carry some of the same creative weight these days. However, some shots are inspiring and must have been fairly groundbreaking at the time.

Pretty cute. Some nice shots, and the end result is relaxing to watch.

has the quality of rain like the woman in the dunes has the quality of sand

No narrative here at all, just a beautiful, painterly depiction of rain. Very nice.

actually, i think this is the first time i've seen wetness in a city symphony film. quite lovely.

Interesting idea! But, the execution, is nothing more than mediocre.

Better than city symphonies but Vertov's. The most romantic one of all.
