I loved "Wreck It Ralph" because of the loving homage to video games of yore, but this sequel forgot what drew adults in. They decided to replace those references with ones of the internet era, focusing too heavily on memes, it just doesn't have the same magic. Moreover, the first movie was about a guy everyone took as a bad guy proving his true colors, this one just has him screwing everything up to the point that if you had to pick an antagonist here, you could only pick Ralph.

This was a great sequel, and a different kind of movie than it's predecessor. The first movie is more about accepting where you are, where as this is about accepting that it's okay if your friends have different dreams and places they want to go than you. I appreciate that being in a kids movie. I excepted this to be Disney parading itself but it totally wasn't. It may not be the absolute video game blast that the first movie was, but it's honestly a solid movie overall. Well worth it.

It passes the time. Honestly, it's pretty cute, but I think a lot of the charm of the first one is lost, in exchange for pretty sub-par meme references and product placement plot points. The story seems to take a backseat to the constant barrage of advertising that really is this movie. Still the voice cast does a good job, and some of the story beats can be cute.

I'm still seeing the details that they put into creating a gigantic monster Ralph composed of little monster Ralphs. They're an all moving mass of creatures and I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Quite frankly, it creeped me out a bit, which has an odd tendency to happen MORE often at kid's movies.

Some of the references were really fun, especially the Disney Princesses. And the moral of the story is pretty unique. But the plot was not super compelling and felt more like it was just meant to fit in as many references and clever ideas as they could, so it was somewhat underwhelming as a whole.

Fun and effective, but the betrayal in the third act was so predictable and empty its commencement soured all that had come before it (and its resolution was weak to boot). Luckily the (admittedly really cheap) bit with the princesses working together to save falling Ralph brought it all back to decent entertainment. As the central relationship seemed dangerously unhealthy from start to finish, I'm glad the Candy Crush girl moved in with her badass lesbian partner in the end.

I loved the original film (even had it in my top ten of 2012 list), but this one, while an amusing ride that passed the time, felt like a hollower experience. Relatively forced conflicts and a lot of “so random XD” and pop culture reliant humor, almost like an 00s Dreamworks movie or something. That said I did think the Disney Princesses bit was amusing, and the end credits song very catchy.

The first half is mediocre; the initial plot feels contrived-as is the case with most post-happy-ending sequels-and the internet-related humour, aside from a few clever bits, generally feels gimmicky. The second half is much stronger: There's an amazing unexpected musical number, an awesome appearance from the Disney princesses, and an authentic and touching character dynamic that emerges between the two leads as they figure out how to maintain their friendship amidst their differences.

This is a great sequel (almost as good as the original) and it so cleverly depicts what the internet. Much like the first one, the cameos and references are something to keep an eye on but with the internet at their full disposal, there is more than enough to keep you entertained and giggling. The story is also pretty well constructed and as you would expect with a Disney film, it has a nice message about friendship and what it truly means to be friends.

Very unrealistic movie about the Internet. No one was called the N word and they didn't immediately see porn of themselves. I wish a studio had the guts to make the movie the Internet deserves

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET takes its core character dynamic to a wonderful new place, but in the process loses much of its predecessor's charm. Trading the specificity of old-school video gaming for a concept as broad as the internet allows for some clever world-building but also introduces too much flavor-of-the-month pandering. (An especially cringey bit finds Ralph becoming a YouTube sensation.) Their hearts are in the right place, but like the rest of us, their online lives feel contrived.

Even my girlfriend who is oblivious to a lot of stuff asked why every woman in this movie was perfect and amazing and every guy was a bumbling or evil person. Even without these obnoxious themes the middle entire portion of the movie was incredibly boring. At under 2 hours it felt so unbearably long we spent at least a half hour making conversation.

I swear I sat down to watch this in 3 separate sittings each one hour long and yet the movie is only two hours?we go through a who-cares story of the trials of Ralph and Vanellope's friendship-SLASH-toxic relationship. Beyond that it pushes the nostalgia rush of the first into a Ready Player One style cavalcade of pop-Internet and Disney culture references, some of which hits, most of which goes by with a tiny chuckle or empty sigh. The best joke in the entire movie is a bee pun

The princess scene is the only thing that feels fresh in the movie. The rest of the movie doesn't differentiate itself enough to feel original and is full of tryhard child-friendly internet meta jokes that would've been funny back in 2014; they are several years too late for that kind of humor to feel new.

Extremely hit-or-miss entertainment (even in its best moments, namely scenes involving the Disney princesses and an unexpected musical number). The straight internet-related humor felt way too cutesy and overly-reliant on just naming things audiences would recognize to garner cheap laughs. The mid-credits scene is the comedic highlight (despite already being present in the trailers). The film’s friendship-centric message is beautiful and smartly integrated (albeit hugely ham-fisted by the end)

The plot has no flow whatsoever. Some obstacles are way too easy (Ralph earning money with viral videos just sort of happens and when there's a 'problem' it's mentioned but doesn't do anything; a weird scene where they basically skip a mad dash out of the racing game) or stupidly self-inflicted. Very message-y, but with a super negative message (don't be a terrible friend like Ralph). Only the princess cameos are really funny even, most of it is surprisingly lacking in humor.

The sequel to Wreck-It Ralph cuts back heavily on character depth, but does everything a sequel should do. It raises the stakes, strengthens relationships, and does so in an exciting and visually appealing, albeit far more juvenile manner. Eventually, though, it offers enough emotional clarity to make up for anything lost in the six year wait.

Some solid jokes but really it was almost everything I thought the first one was going to be. The "hey look at that -name of product here-" was done away with after the first 15 minutes in Wreck-It, but the constant barrage of real life logos was just callous and unfun. They wouldn't DARE make fun of a real like company so that's taking away so many opportunities for fun jokes that a pastiche/parody would have brought in. That said, I definitely cried at the end.

Definitely not as endearing as the first one. The good: soundtrack, hidden references and background hints, some jokes. The bad: really slow to start. Message was somewhat muddled, and in the end it felt more like a breakup than a follow-your-dreams story. After-credits scene was the best one in the movie.

I didn't want to miss seeing Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) because my girl has been nagging me about seeing this. But as it's partly about retro gaming, I'm in! Plenty of references to games I grew up with, and perhaps a little too much contemporary gags thrown in. Weird with all the Disney heroins ruling the place, as they were barely even product placements while our hero was struggling. I did enjoy a lot of this. It had the time-tested Disney formula, so you know what you get.

Ralph Breaks the Amount of Times Disney can remind us the amount of properties from our childhoods it now owns would have been a more apt title for this sequel. It bounces around. The Slaughter Race sequences were visually stunning as was the initial descent into the internet. Ralph sort of faultered, Vanellope found out other racing games exist and it lead to a meltdown of dreaming big or literally going home. A decent message with bouncy and colorful visuals.

Ralph Breaks the Internet was a mixed bag for me. The animation was great, as was the voice acting, though I did find the voices a little grating this time round. All the characters felt plausible in the first film; this sequel ramps up the melodrama with an ending that doubles the emotion yet halves the impact. The visualisation of the Internet is good but tamed and flawed - a Disney conceit that doesn’t sit well with me. The best joke is the Monty Python bit during the end credits.

The charm of the original's retro gaming nostalgia is replaced by a spot the modern website reference approach which really doesn't work as well even though a few of the gags are still quite funny. Gadot is a lot of wonder-ful things but voice actor isn't one of them and her Shank is a dreadfully bland character which is a shame. Overall it's a lesser movie the original but Silverman and Reilly are still a great combo and again succeed in being entertaining throughout the runtime.

Ralph Breaks the Internet is nowhere near as bad as the advertising suggested. Though that fact doesn't quite forgive the missing supporting roles, leaving the original premise almost completely behind, and some of the iffy comedy moments. That being said. The film is loaded with real emotion, spectacular animation and stellar voice acting. In the end this sequel contains enough internet satire and clever moments to stand above Disney's more mediocre efforts.

Not as good as the first one by a long shot. Apart from a few fun little jokes about internet stuff and cameos from other Disney properties (which is also all kinda basic, really), there wasn't going for it. It was pretty predictable and I wasn't emotionally invested. It had a couple of laughs, but nothing hilarious. The animation and voice cast were good. Except for Gal Gadot - she does not work as a voice actor. I didn't dislike it, but it was fairly forgettable overall.

Ralph somehow avoids porn on the internet! Besides showing an understandably non accurate version of the web, this film did a great job with the G rated surfing. I know Disney was in full self-fellating mode here, but I truly loved all the Disney owned franchise cross overs. If anything, I wanted more. Speaking of the internet, they actually got Sonic right...on the first try! Can we get a Deadpool appearance in the 3rd one please?

When you have the world of video games, a way to mix in Disney characters, and the internet itself, there's so much material to work with. After 15 minutes it stops being about video games (save one made for this), most of the Disney stuff is shown in the princess trailer, and it's an abstract of the net that advertises more than amuses. Worse, the relationship of Vanellope and Ralph deals with a problem of insecurity and clinginess with a resolution that is more bitter than sweet. Disappointed.

I thought the first movie was fine. I think this movie is fine. I think it is fundamentally confused about some concepts, but it's essentially a kid's film, so I'm inclined to give it a pass ... while noting that it never really transcends it's status as a film for kids. It does feel like one big product placement gold mine with the names of really companies peppered throughout the film ... and some clearly paid more money.

To me the Wreck it Ralph movies is really the peak example of tongue-in-cheek, pop-culture-referencing movies. An excellent sequel, with a different story and message, with the stand-out part for me being the song in the middle - both a pitch perfect parody and meaningful in the context of the story. I would have liked a bit more satire about the Internet and the culture that has developed around it, but then this is a kids film so it can't go too far, or pessimistic. And it had a nice moral message too, and who doesn't enjoy a good moral?

Warm and witty sequel may have more to offer an older audience than kids; a clever deconstruction of Internet culture is perhaps a little easier on social media than it could have been, but still makes some pertinent observations as well as a genuinely heartwarming story of Ralph and Vanellope's evolving friendship (with both Reilly and Silverman exquisite here). Highlighted by surprisingly non-exploitative use of past Disney characters, and even some blatant product/logo placement.

It’s probably Disney’s weakest Classic release in over a decade. ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ ticks enough positive boxes and there is plenty to like in it. But it’s rampant commercialism sits uncomfortably, and there is undeniably something insidious about its subject matter when you know what a shitshow the internet actually is! A fairly average story does it no favours either, but there is enough inventiveness and thought here to enjoy even with reservations.

With strong voice performances, hilariously meta moments, and a near-perfect portrayal of how ridiculous, cruel, and amazing (all at once) the internet can be, it's a solid sequel that manages to still have plenty of heart and charm. Mature themes, humor that anyone can appreciate, and a quick pace combine to make a really likeable movie. It does have some flaws, though, namely the fact that most of its humor will be extremely dated ten years from now- still, though, it's very worth watching.

I didn't love it as much as the first one, but I still liked it. The first two acts of the film kinda meander aimlessly but deliver some genuinely great comedic scenes such as the Disney Princesses and the Alan Menken musical number, but the final act kinda wraps it together under a message about toxic friendships which I don't think I've ever seen in a kid's movie before and I was glad to see.

The meta jokes are incredibly lazy and Disney's self-masturbatory references were particularly nauseating, especially with how on the nose they are with the Disney princesses. This film opts to make a ton of references but doesn't have the gall to make a mockery out of the many brands it flashes at us instead opting for surface level G-rated jokes about internet culture. The film's drama has a decent enough hook, but is played out in a way where the resolution is achieved with little insight.
