Nothing in life can be perfect. But there are those simple things or special moments that can almost make it there. For instance, I remember one time when my kids rushed in laughing from the backyard after a stretch of spirited play. All ruffled and tussled, beaming from ear to ear. And being the, ahem, totally impartial observer that I am, I looked on and thought, "That's just perfect." (pluggedin.com)

Family comedy based on the book of the same name by Beverly Cleary, about a girl who is tormented by her mischievous little sister. cheerfully innocuous if generically uninspired... While its cast -- including newcomer Joey King as Ramona and Selena Gomez as her older sister Beezus -- delivers uniformly breezy performances, most everything else about Ramona's move to the multiplex feels unremarkable.

"At over 100 minutes, Ramona and Beezus is a hefty cinematic effort to get through, especially considering how audience-surveyed and clichéd the film proves" - Adam Keleman

This movie reminded me of "Dennis the Menace" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid". It's kind of built on comic strip kind of characters (though actually a series of youth books). It's an okay type of movie, but there's really nothing special about it that sets it aside from the many other movies that its similar to.

It's a G-rated movie, so it's not going to be anything groundbreaking, but Joey King gives a charming, capable performance in the role of Ramona and the movie was more entertaining than I expected.

Joey King delivers an adorable performance as a means-well 9-year-old whose efforts seem to oft go awry. Built around its lovable cast and tight script, Romana and Beezus provides one of the better G-rated comedies of this generation.

I'm a big fan of the oft-overlooked "kid-friendly, live-action comedy-drama" subgenre. Which, in the fast few years, looks to have been solely represented by the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series. That is, except for this under-the-radar gem, based on the classic Beverly Cleary novels. Joey King and Selena Gomez make for a brilliant, perfectly-chosen sister team in this warm-hearted, utterly adorable flick. It's sweet, funny, and never cloying.

Characters being nice to one another is nice (and rare) but this is just far too precious for its own good, and not nearly as genuine as it pretends to be. Everyone gives decent performances, it just all rings false. It was cool (and completely odd) to see Natasha and Aidan from Sex and the City as a couple, though.

Not bad. I like this genre of the harmless, kid-centric American family movie. The plot is predictable and recycled, so no bonus points gained there. The film's big colourful moments are not allways the kind of things that would make kids' jaws drop. The young actors are decently charismatic without ever being groundbreakingly memorable. But for me it's the adults in this film who are particularly well-cast and on point. This is decent entertainment but not really a classic of the genre.

Quite an affable and harmless family film, however, it's by no means a great piece of work. For me, it lacks the warmth and charm needed. Plus, maybe it's me as a horribly cynical creature, but I think the eponymous Ramona comes across as a little monster, a spoilt and attention-seeking Brat.
