Basically a King Kong-alike movie with enough differences to avoid any lawsuits, plus The Rock--a guy who could make a movie about jumping up and down on a piano for an hour and a half seem awesome. The Rock certainly does pull his weight here, but the flimsy script and some laughably caricatureistic villians bog this one down. I shouldn't have expected better from a movie based on an arcade game from '86, but you know...The Rock. Still better than anything Uwe Boll could have crapped out.

This is like when a child has a really over elaborate explanation for why he burned down the neighbor's garage. Shut up you little brat, we both know that officially what you did was wrong, but behind closed doors, and just between the two of us, it had to be done.

This is a little hard to rate. The action is all done pretty well in all honesty. The last act of the movie is just sheer entertainment, as is a majority of the movie. Unfortunately, this movie is slightly bogged down by some really cheesy lines and camera shots. I laughed out loud more than once from some unintentional hilarity. Still, it's a good time if you go in expecting a cheese ball and some decent performances. Morgan is always a joy to watch anymore. I had more fun than I expected to.

There were some great unexpected events. I liked the loony monsters. Of course there was nothing convincing about it. Just enough campy humor and over the top acting to keep you smiling. The action is fast paced with frequent overuse of CGI. Worth watching and it was fun to anticipate what gonzo thing will happen next. The villains and a few plot points were a bit pathetic. Good silly fun.

This is a dumb dumb dumb movie and yes it knows it. The thing is that it's aimed at the kids whose parents used to play this game not the parents themselves. All that being said this movie is much better than the trailers led me to believe hell I'd go so far as to say that this is actually much better then it had any right to be. Dwayne Johnson is very likable as always, as bad as it is it does actually have a story. The opening scenes in the space station were pretty cool, the rest of the...

I have a weird relationship with this. I almost wanted it to suck when I first heard about it. This movie had, to quote... somebody, "one fucking job", and that job was to be fun. Nothing more. It didn't have to reach any unanticipated heights, nor did it particularly have to wrestle against high expectations. It just had to be fun. "Rampage" is fun. It's dumb, and that's fine. It's not particularly well-written, and that's fine too. Rock does his Rock thing, there's some emotion. Worth seeing.

Rampage had every tool in the box to succeed, and to some degree it does. Visually it's quite good, the last act of the movie is where it really shows too, and you do feel some connection between the Rock and the gorilla, however I couldn't handle some of the half baked lines the Rock delivered, as well as some really forced humor elements that weren't needed at all. If you can get past these issues, it's quite enjoyable, especially the last act, unfortunately, I can't.

recommend it for kaiju fans, and for those of us whose inner ten year old is still going strong, ignoring the ridiculousness of randomly exploding helicopters(and uh a inexplicable repetition of conveniently located helicopters...Johnson has the thickest plot armor you'll ever see) just to appreciate a cool explosion. The rest of you - this is mindless, it's fluff and if you've only got enough appetite for one kaiju movie this year let it be Pacific Rim: Uprising

Considering how much Hollywood struggles with movie adaptations of newer games with actual plot and characters, it should come as no surprise that an adaptation of a simplistic arcade game from the 80s turned out to be a trainwwreck. 95% asinine filler, 5% mediocre monster mayhem.

Without much of a reason to care, Rampage is all just a bunch of white noise. It lacks the characters and purpose to draw us in emotionally, which makes the action much less enjoyable. It's well-staged action made possible due to very good special effects, but it's hollow. That'll be enough for some people. The Transformers movies have their fans, too, after all. But if you're looking for something more than just "San Andreas with monsters instead of earthquakes," you'll be disappointed.

Being familiar with the fun, but mindless video game it's based on gave me a lot of appreciation for the writing which managed to come up with a plausible (for a giant monster movie) storyline to explain why these creatures are all smashing a city together while also creating a potential franchise for the Rock. It should be great fun for kids but the characters are cliches (while strenuously adhering to PC guidelines). For this to have been a home run the comedy needed to soar, but it's "meh".

Ahhh, it's a good time. The humans are mostly blowhards, but the relationship between George and the Rock is genuinely moving. That's where the emotional connection is, I don't think it's meant to be between the humans. And then the action is just a loud, fun time. That's really all I needed and expected, so I quite enjoyed it.

I just... I need more than this. I’m not Mr. Pretentious Grumpy Old Film Snob over here. I enjoy plenty of action and genre films. But nearly an hour of CGI giant animals fighting each other and knocking CGI buildings down amidst CGI explosions - sorry, no. This is too dumb to be enjoyable. Certainly not the best, but far from the worst thing you can sit down to watch if you want some "leave the brain at the door action fuelled fun"... my technical criticism (and not the first movie to do this, but surely things should be better in this day and age) I think the relative scale of a couple of the beasts changed between shots but overall decent action, decent humour and a traditional indestructible hero vs. bad guy corporation with well CGI'd big monsters. What's not to enjoy?

Surprisingly, I can't get enough of Dwayne Johnson delivering his usual silly macho role. He is very talented and funny, I wish he'd be casted in a variety of things, not just action movies. But boy, is he good at those! "Rampage" isn't very original, but sure is entertaining. Hopefully I will remember it more than I do "Kong Island" (I couldn't recall the cast, and I love Tom Hiddleston). Bottom line, the movie is action packed, can get emotional and is 100% engaging.

Given its wild concept and expectedly undercooked plot and characters (the villains' motives and the opening supporting cast end up MIA), the film's at its best when it aims for camp (see Davis in the helicopter: "It's coming back to me") and at its worst when it takes itself too seriously (sorry, you did *not* earn the slow motion and mournful strings post-climax). Good destructo-action, mediocre everything else (even poor sometimes-what was with that awful parachute selfie camera angle?)

It's unapologetically daft and the kaiju sequence goes on for too long without the necessary presence of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, whose charisma is all that makes this film more than its concept (though Naomie Harris gets in a few good quips along the way). It's definitely not a "good" film but if you've watched this, then something appealed to you. If that's the case, you would have gotten what you were after. Whether it be Dwayne Johnson, the CGI monsters or the action; the film does exactly what it should and delivers on all of those expectations. If none of those things are what you are after, then you've already come too far anyway, so you might as well enjoy it for what it is.

Cheerfully silly monster movie is essentially KING KONG/GODZILLA revisited; excellent CGI work makes 'George' a likable co-star combined with a relaxed and charismatic performance by Johnson (and some outrageously hammy scene-stealing by Morgan). Undistinguished (and at least one 'battle-in-the-streets' too long) but great fun for what it is.

The big disappointment is that the arcade game story element where humans transform into monsters and back isn't here- that would have been great fun. Especially if Dwayne Johnson was one of them. The opening 30 minutes were better than the rest where there are boring scenes on a military base intercut the main villains saying things. The de-aggression drug gag at the end wasn't earned. Airplane scene just like The Mummy. The mercenary should have survived the wolf and come back at the end.

Rampage consumed many hours of my gaming childhood. Me and my friends made pacts to destroy the entire city, but the best part of the game was stunlocking them just as their building was collapsing, which inevitably led to an all out melee. When it all came crashing down, we hit reset and did it all over again: 'no hitting each other this time'. There is very little pretense to the city-smashing action in RAMPAGE, a movie that carries the subtlety of a meaty fist to the face: animals get big, destroy things. There's also very little effort made to distinguish it from the many other Dwayne Johnson vehicles that roll into our cinemas with the consistency of the tides. RAMPAGE at least has the ability to laugh at itself, as befitting a movie where a giant gorilla swings a girder like a baseball bat. File under: Generic CGI Spectacle.

It has to be taken as it is, not what it is not.
