Rang De Basanti

Suffers from the common Bollywood problem of being a bloated mess that tries to do a million things at once and does none of them particularly well. The first half is ok, but the final hour has some downright ridiculous plot points and very dubious equivocations that are treated very superficially. It gets preachier and more convoluted and is worse for it.

It is definitely too long, but the last hour and a half makes up for it. I will never get used to, or approve of all the songs in these movies. They simply make the films too long, and in this particular movie, it ruins the potential to make this a thrilling and exciting dark movie. Still a good watch, and a memorable one at that. -Good

Goddamn, what a fucking mess of a movie. The first half is a goofy, college-age comedy, which is boring and long, but inoffensive. The second half is, I shit you not, a dead serious political message about how you ought to assassinate corrupt politicians. (Yes, you. The viewer. Go do it right now.) Throw in about 6 different montages played over patriotic hindi pop music. Oh, and the best part: 3. hours. long.

This movie makes some pretty bold statements about corruption in the Indian government, but it still does so while wearing the pants of a Big Happy Musical. It could have been a great historical movie, or a great drama, or a great comedy, but instead it tries to be all three at different times, and the juggling is a little awkward.

Terribly overrated, dragged out movie. Tried to juggle too many balls and dropped them all.

For the most part, silly. Mileage will vary dramatically.

This was actually a pretty awesome movie, just an hour too long due to the music videos. Aamir Khan can't quite pull off being a college kid either.

wow. This film has a lot to say about Race, Colonialism, Sacrifice, Nationalism, Government Corruption, Militarism & Religion and there's no way I can begin to unpack all of it in the space of a mini-review. No, this film isn't actually encouraging people to assassinate political figures, but rather, is arguing that contemporary Hindu ultra-nationalism is just as dangerous & oppressive as British Colonialism from before was and that the only way to counter it is to put an end to political apathy

Gets better with time, I guess.

Hey, my first Bollywood movie ever! Wasn't too bad, although it was far too long and melodramatic.

Struggles with pacing issues (should have trimmed at LEAST thirty minutes) and more than a few scenes that feel like Jeep commercials, but its final act is compelling.

A truly poignant saga about the state of affairs in India. With outstanding musical score and meaty story, the actors, especially Amir Khan, Sharman Joshi and Atul Kulkarni, give life to the emotion of GenX of India.

What starts off as a sometimes charming, sometimes cheesy "let's make a movie" flick (with too many montages) develops into a melodramatic hodgepodge of patriotism and questionable choices.

What is at first a fairly charming and entertaining drama-comedy makes a thoroughly baffling toneshift in it's last hour to become one of the dumbest statements I've seen in the whole terrorist-freedom fighter debate. And I've been on Twitter. Also Aamir Khan is 40 years old here, playing a college student. That's some 90210 bullshit right there.

The movie seems inspired from a foreign one. The emotional drama was of so called mom-butti gangs of NGOs and liberals. Too much of targeting and blaming others and politicians for the country's situation as well as the end scenes were totally not required.
