Less a film but more a sequence of Arnie one-liners strung into narrative form. Here are my favorites, in order: "You should not drink and bake." "Do you think I still pass the physical?" "Magic?, magnet!" "You know why I like bedrooms? You almost always find a bed in there!" "I hope you're not your mother's only child." "We are finished shopping!" "I'm hungry." "Do you own a calendar? It must be a Jewish holiday." "...To do what an old friend told me to do: Not get dead."

Just as riddled with tropes as the same year's contemporary buff guy action movie "Cobra", but Mark Kaminsky suffers from a lack of buffoonish swagger that Marion Cobretti had, even when cutting his day old pizza with a pair of scissors. Even so, the twelve year old in me wishes that the well of 80's action movies like this was bottomless.

For better or worse, this is Arnie in full force, flexing his pecs and mangling the English language with amazing zeal. It's a pretty typical explosion filled outing.

It doesn't matter how many times you paste his name across the poster, kids in Oklahoma still won't be able to spell Schwarzenegger.

This movie has a few good action moments. But the script is weak at times, some lines are pure cheese and it seems like this story has been done countless times before. Overall this film is disappointing.

Dull Schwarzenegger vehicle is arguably his worst film from his heyday, and he is actually pretty terrible in it, delivering lines in a rather tone deaf fashion. Even his trademark quotables are in short supply, with only 'don't drink and bake' being a true standout. Irvin's direction is purely perfunctory when it isn't downright bad. He knows where to place the camera, but has no idea how to control movement, and while the action scenes towards the end are OK, they arrive too late to save it.

Raw Deal is undoubtedly one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's worst action films, but I definitely had a soft spot for it growing up. Considering Arnold was a huge star by this point in his career, it's surprising that he starred in this poorly directed, badly written and incredibly amateurish film. But all the silliness and awful slicked back hair aside, Arnold still somehow adds enough charisma to make this watchable.

Schwarzenegger's charm struggles to shine through a ludicrous and somewhat incomprehensible plot. Many of the directorial decisions are equally incomprehensible and bizarre, almost as though it were being made up as it went along. Why, for instance, introduce his wife and her alcoholism only to have her disappear completely from all subsequent scenes? On the other hand, the most amusing moment occurs in an early scene in which Arnold informs his wife that she oughtn't drink and bake.

"Raw Deal" is among the few odd ducks in Schwarzenegger's career. It looks cheap, tacky, and much of the storyline bores. The film actually has somewhat of a confusing plot going on, but that may simply be its lack of coherency. There's just something very distant about the whole project, and the real 'action' doesn't pick up until the final shootout.

Damn. I was pretty excited to see this with the hilarious tagline "His trigger has all the answers" and "He was given a Raw Deal....NO ONE gives him a Raw Deal." Huge disappointment from Arnold.

This is a purely paint by numbers Arnold vehicle from his prime. The one-liners are generally uninspired compared to Arnold's usual films of this era and it kind of feels eerily like an Arnold 80s action film developed by an AI, but I have a soft spot and I'll never say no to Arnold shooting 60 bad guys and causing tens of millions in property damage in the process. Most of Arnold's other 80s action is much better, though.

Average Arnie with some fun moments, but they're spread thin across a script that adds up to virtually nothing. The cinematography is surprisingly good, almost to the point of jarring, considering what it's paired with. This is probably the best scene (take from that what you will): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NFbP7iq-1E

Raw Deal doesn't mesh when it compared to the rest of Arnold's catalog. There is a lot of action in this movie but it tries to turn Arnold into too much of a thinking man's good guy and that isn't who Arnold is. I liked the story of a disgraced Fed who wants to earn his place back in the agency so he goes rogue and helps avenge his old boss' son who was killed by the mob. Which brings me to the final scene of the movie, which they try and make McGavin's character into this nice guy but he isn't.

There is some ironic enjoyment to be had in the often incredulous directorial choices and absurdly non-sequitur moments of comedic relief, but this movie is a turd.

Raw Deal (1986) has become something of a forgotten movie in Arnold Schwarzenegger's career. It was a gritty crime story made at a time when the action star could seemingly do no wrong with every movie doing well at the box office. Not so with Raw Deal, which barely made a profit in comparison to action movie rival Sylvester Stallone and his own crime movie Cobra (1986).

Made to cash in on Arnie's fame just as it was on the rise, this is cheap, badly written and poorly directed. Arnie's charisma is just enough to keep you watching, but trying to play a slick wise-cracking gangster just isn't a part suited to him. There's plenty of brain-off action but it's horribly directed and choreographed, scenes happen for no good reason (where did his wife go for the rest of the movie?) and between shootouts there's an awful lot of not much happening. A rare Arnie turkey

Suffers from a weak supporting cast and weak hand-to-hand choreography but the movie has a lot of cool setpieces when it's making use of vehicles and weapons. Being this is sold on Schwarzeneggar's personality this delivers in providing some amazing one-liners and Arnie steals the show any time he's screen. It's a shame anything outside his presence is boring as hell, but this movie has so many fun scenes that I can say it was at least a decent popcorn flick.
