Thick, toothless satire for old people.

Yes, Reality TV is a brain-eating parasitic worm. We already know that. The film, though well-shot and mildly engaging, struggles to find something more to say.

Like a cross between La Dolce Vita and The King Of Comedy without being as good as either of them, but there is plenty to admire here, especially from a technical standpoint; the incredibly well choreographed long shots that feel almost invisible for one; the great lead performance by a real life Camorra criminal for another; and the omnipresence of spectacle in a society that has lost its moral center. It's a shame that, in its final act, it loses its nerve until the very last moment.

Funny and moving at times, but in the end it never really digs deep and dirty.

Through Garrone's vérité camera -- one that refuses easy cuts --, we follow the life of a Naples fish salesman who turns a possible invitation to BB into an obsession that makes him even give his furniture to homeless people -- thinking they are from TV -- and believe that an insect might be actually a camera. BB, just like cinema for those who love it, is on his mind, is untouchable -- even if you step into the set/the house, like he did, you're still out -- and puts a smile on his/our face.

This is a mesmerizing movie. I find Garrone's style of long, floating Steadicam takes hypnotic. An intellectual appraisal of the film might conclude that it doesn't have anything profoundly new to say about reality TV, but it does tell a powerful story about the obsession of fame and what it does to this man's life.

Admittedly Reality doesn't really have anything that interesting to say about reality television, but I think reviewers are missing that it's a parable about the dangers of blind faith. It's an interesting parallel that the film successfully builds, although for all the interesting subtext the film feels a bit tepid. So what ratio is needed between interesting and entertaining for you to like a movie? Well I guess your mileage may vary. Score is not a grade.

some great moments mixing the reality and fiction and surprising the audience with a great focus on the protagonist, but seems very long while it repeats itself as it derives from reality, couldnt satisfy my expectations after "gomorra"

This wasn't the first movie to deal with "Reality" TV's relationship with real life, but it is possibly the best of them. It is infused by the spirit of Visconti's masterpiece "Bellissima". Unsentimental but heart-rending, and its critique is effortlessly incisive.

A provocative, dynamic premise quickly hits a sour note that unhinges this film into a constantly bleak downward spiral. Has the same harrowing inevitability as "Requiem For a Dream" but felt even weirder taking place in a small, warm Italian town.

Reality TV (Big Brother) like Paradise on Earth for proletarian. Reality show stars are like angels and saints. Unsettling like most of Garrone Cinema. Lacked something to say beyond a mild satire.
