Whereas the original at least attempted to portray the enemy as human, the remake featured nothing but slanty-eyed devils from Best Korea to act as archery butts for well-armed high school brats. Boy mercilessly guns down faceless Chinaman in one scene, but pauses when faced with sniping a deer in the next. A shit sandwich without the bread, indeed.

Pretty bad any way you cut it, from the laughable surface-level "emotional" content to shaky action to its jingoistic vibe and even a little smack of racism, though, if you're specifically looking for a bad movie to laugh at/mock, I have to say that this would be one of the first from this year I'd recommend. It's a joyous, doofusy sort of bad.

Not as excruciating as I had thought it might be. ... How's that for a quote on the DVD? Of course it's not very good, and the fact that it was shelved for two years so they could change the foreign menace from China to North Korea makes the movie completely preposterous. But there are still Chinese symbols all over the film -- the edits weren't that thorough, apparently. If you're going to make race-baiting Asian Fear porn (don't Google this), at least have the courage of your convictions.

Sickening fodder for American gun fantasists, a naked attempt to grab cash from America's red states who surely deserve better than this. There's not a trace of irony, satire or moral argument in it - the movie only comes alive briefly during a product placement segment. What's more appalling is that they had the nerve to turn to international audiences and invite them to subsidise this delusional trash - as if there were anything in this wretched 90 minutes that deserves the world's attention.

Without doubt the most retarded thing I have ever seen. I've been developing concepts along a similar line however. "Plastic Dawn" - The US invades Europe and tries to make us eat American cheese. "Aube de Boeuf" - The English invade France and attempt to convince them we're not total wankers. "Blonde Dawn" - the Swedish invade Togo and attempt to turn everyone in to blonde white people. Yeah, they sound good don't they... and possibly racist?

Best Korea's military fucking sucks. They get fooled at every turn by Peeta from The Hunger Games and a now-skinny Josh of Drake and Josh fame, who goes out of his way risking the lives of his entire team and a school bus of faceless hostages for his blonde girlfriend whose entire character is Cheerleader. This is the most 'Murican movie I've seen in a while.

What a mess of a film. It's not like the first one was Gone With the Wind, but it did have a dated sort of 80's swagger. This has weird editing and poor writing. Just avoid it and watch the original.

Definitely comes off like one of those flicks that got hacked to pieces in the editing room then never properly reassembled. Chickenshit, whitewashed, striving mightily to be inoffensive to everybody (and failing, I might add). Pretty bad any way you cut it; I rated it higher than I should because, I guess, it's got a few moments of solid escapism, I was having a rough week and was in the mood to see something brainless, and Adrianne Palicki.

Better than the original, but that's pretty easy to achieve! I was expecting a tribute to the cheeseball "AVENGE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!" line from the original, but was left disappointed.

I have a hard time believing the North Koreans could even mount this kind of invasion let alone sustain it add to that the proliferation of assault weapons in the United States I can only imagine the North Koreans would be butchered when the millions of weapons were brought to bear. Not really as good as the first one and it wasn't that good either. Wolverines!!

I assumed it would be pretty bad and of course it was. I did have fun watching it though, and that may only be because I like the idea of it, Hemsworth is pretty cool, and thats pretty much it.

A so bad it's quotable kind of action film -- "Marines don't die, they go to hell and regroup" --, packed with the most ridiculous solutions to contain the dumbest, most poorly trained North Korean invaders of all time. In fact, Red Dawn feels more like a sci-fi gone wrong -- what's up with this communication device anyway -- one that is so good it fits in a briefcase? -- than an actual piece the serious, macho (and racist) coming of age action flick it pretends to be.

I watched a half an hour and decided that the current live coverage of a house fire on channel 4 was more harrowing, intricate and ultimately a stronger satire of national security concerns.

Everything is a slightly less-good version of the original, which is bad news since the 1984 version was already sub-par. Besides the inherent absurdity of trying to imagine North Korea invading anywhere, the abrupt ending is possibly the worst change (I'll take the original's unbearably corny attempt to be meaningful over Josh Peck inspiring people to blow up the high school football stadium).

Yep. Ridden with plot holes, and without much sense made, this movie fails at even the simplest tasks of providing good acting and nice action. Both suck. The CGI is horrible and the story doesn't make sense. I am honestly a little sad I watched this.

As an action movie, it was tolerable. The premise is one that could make a good action movie. As a remake, they made some extremely crucial mistakes. First, why North Korea? They have one tenth the population of the United States, and outdated military equipment. The collective civilians of America out-arm the military of North Korea. Damning mistake number two, the two Josh-es, you include Hutcherson and you've got enough ham in your movie, but Peck too? Do you want people to walk out?

An epic film! Absolutely the Braveheart of teen films. The United State's defenses are deactivated by a series of EMPs; and in a mater of moment the entire U.S. has been subjugated by the red army. But the Wolverines, a highschool football team, chooses to fight and free their town or die trying. A powerful story about home, country, and family.

Definitely much better than the trailers let on. Red Dawn is a solid action movie, that features a very talented cast. Chris Hemsworth proves to be a fantastic lead. The rest of the cast falls in nicely, including Josh Hutcherson and Josh Peck, as well as Isabel Lucas and Adrianne Palicki. It could have possibly been less predictable, but it was still an emotional movie about banding together in a time of desperation.

WOLVERINES! This movie had some pretty awesome moments. Sadly those awesome moments were marred by horrible story choices and some bad acting. I was happy to see my old friend from acting class Steve Lenz in this movie. Even though his character was a dirt-bag. My biggest problem with this film was the main character (Hemsworth's brother) he was an awful actor and really hurt the film. I also hate what happens to Hemsworth, it didn't credit the dignity he brought to the movie. Disappointing.

The original was a bit ridiculous but at least had some plausibility. This one doesn't have that. Maybe if they'd kept it as China it would, be North Korea?! Throw in the fact that EMP isn't a new technology and that there are defenses against it and the premise is just stupid. Decent acting, but too stupid to be saved by that

Passable Action, but another instance of there was no real reason to remake the original. Russia was belivable in 80's, that is what made the original such a classic.

Great remake of the woefully underrated original from the 80s. Stays true to the tone of over-the-top American righteousness and adds excellent production value and action cinematography (a little on the shaky side, but at least you can see what's going on, unlike in the Dark Knight for example). The music and pacing are also spot on, with a couple of genuine surprises in the story. Very well done. Wolverines!!!

The original was unrealistic when it first came out, this one is even more so. It's mildly entertaining at best. North Korean troops with Chinese emblems and weapons being helped by Russian military WTF? How do the teens always get into the city? Get food? Ammo? Stay well groomed? Not to mention that they shoot up the country side for meat and target practice and they don't get found out.

I think this film has some really good moments but its just lacking that creative spark to make this a good movie. There are several problems throughout, there isnt really any back story why there is an invasion, I dont think kids can become super soldiers within months and why did the writers have to include cheesy dialogue & one liners. If you leave your brain at the door this is aa watchable movie but one you will forget about instantly,

Honestly, it was better than I expected. I don't know what others were expecting that provokes such a deep political discussion, but the movie was by no means intended as anything but an entertaining action flick. For me the party pooper is the selection of actors. A special kind of hatred just for Josh Peck, what a shit sandwich without bread. Also, "Red Dawn" would have been far better as a tv show. Everything would be explained better and be far more plausible.
