An all-around entertaining movie: colorful characters, funny dialogue, no pretentiousness on the premises. However, I believe it's set in some kind of alternate universe, since Gable passes up Jean Harlow to mess around with a married woman. I hope these characters and their descendants were not later murdered by the Viet Cong

Clark Gable and two steaming women in the rubber jungle! Which to chose? The sophisticated beauty (Mary Astor) or the sizzling hot one (Jean Harlow)? Well, one of them is married, so yeah, go after that one Gable.... in real life I don't think he would have resisted Harlow in that barrel bath. The story as intriguing as the triangle situation is lacks the fireworks for a movie that bubbles so much beneath the surface. But 'Red Dust' is still a very appetizing film and one that one will remember.

Gable and Harlow with a bit of Astor thrown in, all with some very strong chemistry between them. The narrative could be better, but the setting does its job of creating space for some great and entertaining performances.

Saw this years ago and remembered it as a bawdier, more fun "Rain". Recently re-watched it and...not quite. A fairly successful play from the '20's (there's a reason no one remembers Wilson Collison today), it feels surprisingly stage-bound. Gable was never more appealing, Harlow is excellent, and Astor quite good. The surprise is they all end up behaving contrary to expectation...the businessman becomes a smitten schoolboy, the hooker, sweet and domestic, and the virtuous wife, a wanton floozy.

Tawdry tale of a love triangle on a rubber plantation is really known more for its pre-code frankness with regard to sex than for any cinematic accomplishment. Jean Harlow and Clark Gable, two of Old Hollywood's most carnal actors pant and paw at each other while Mary Astor swoons.

wow! that was terrific. I see now why the seeds of Ignatius Reilly were sown on that day!

Steamy love triangle (square?) set in an exotic location. Modern viewers will cringe at the Asian stereotypes, as well as Gable's hyper-masculinity. Harlow usually gets the best lines, even when it sometimes feels like she's in a movie of her own.

Terra de paixões estreava há 90 anos nos EUA. Até então só tinha visto Mogambo, mas não há como não amar esse pre code, tá todo mundo aqui "putting out fire with gasoline". DVD Obras-primas do Cinema.

Good mostly because of the three central characters.

Decent but very formulaic romantic comedy that has a passable but familiar story and not a ton of laughs. Good star power, though, with Gable, Harlow, and Astor. There are quite a few romantic comedies from this period where the smart, quick witted romantic interest enjoys calling the main character by a random name that isn't his. People must have found that very funny back then. A bit tonally confusing, as Harlow seems to think it's a comedy while Astor seems to think it's a melodrama.
