The rebellious daughter of an army general gets involved with a Communist agitator, mainly to annoy her father. He arranges to have her kidnapped and taken to Mexico--hoping that she will forget her "Red" boyfriend--by a young, handsome soldier named Jeff who, while somewhat of a goof-up, the general believes is still better for her. Barbara Stanwyck delivers a wisecrack better than quite a few broads at the time much more famous for it, and I find this picture funnier than a few far more famous comedies of the time I can think of. It's funny in a rather sweet, naïve way (sort of like the way it deals with the notion of Communism), Cliff Edwards' goofy charm is infectious, and the embarrassing moments (there are a few) are kept to a minimum. Innocuous fun.

Barbara Stanwyck is in love with a Communist and an American soldier (Robert Young) sets her straight! It's basically the same story as "It Happened One Night (1934)" with a Red sub-plot. Cliff Edwards gets thrown into the mix when they hijack his trailer and at least brings a few laughs. The corny love story naturally ends with a even more corny political twist when the soldier reforms a crowd of Communist sympathizers by talking about the uniform and the star "The Star-Spangled
