Love that in a post apocalyptic dragon world there's still room for a buff southern redneck like McConaughey. "Yes we have a small dragon problem but I still wanna train my abbs, take off my shirt and smoke a cigar!" However you gotta give him that for once he's bad ass. This movie is a linguistic feast. You got Bale's shouting-english, McConaugheys ever present howdy-maam-southern and then you throw in the 3rd spice that is Butlers mad man mumbling scottish and you've got yourself a happy meal!

Nothing super exciting or entertaining to speak of. A silly plot combined with direction in order to attempt to make the movie a credible suspense that results in a mediocre and forgettable movie.

You know, I don't see why this movie gets such hate. Sure, theconcept is silly, and the script isn't great, but it looks great, and its fun to watch. C'MON PEOPLE! CHRISTIAN BALE, GERARD BUTLER AND DRAGONS! No? Fine, fuck you guys, I still say it's good.

The type of film I hope gets remade in two decades. Some of its ideas are fantastic, but the movie falters under weak direction from Bowman, a budget that can't deliver on the concept's potential, a forgettable script and a downright goofy ending. When it's all said and done it seems simply unbelievable that mankind has been pushed to the brink of extinction, as our heroes solve the dragon problem with such relative ease that how could no one have tried that before?!? Decent action, bad movie.

I think I was initially disappointed when I first saw it in the theater. It seemed like the dragons' appearances were too few. But over time, I've really come to enjoy this movie. Really good, imaginative stuff. Sure, there are tons of plot holes, but they went above and beyond to make this look like hell on earth, and the acting is just about over the top, which is perfect. Definitely doesn't deserve the hate.

As a bald, growling, buffed-up McConaughey gets introduced riding a tank with the cannon erect between his legs, any chance of taking the movie serious disintegrates, even if Bale did his best, most grumpy looking, welt-smertz-y acting for the preceding 45 minutes... Still... and for what ever reason... I quite like this film...

Ridiculously stupid premise. Dragons hiding for millions of years then defeating the world's military & taking over the earth, living on ashes? Some exciting action scenes & impressive CGI. Excellent cast & performances. Exceptional music effectively builds the excitement. Good production but highly flawed story & dialog. Good performances make it worth watching. Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey & Gerard Bulter were all good, as was the adorable Izabella Scorupco. Silly fun.

This isn't particularly good or particularly bad, but its simple existence makes me happy. The fact that someone even made a B-movie with A-list actors about a dragon dystopia makes the world a better place.

Released less than a year after the September 11 attacks and less than a year before the invasion of Iraq, here a gung-ho American leader convinces a British leader that, by joining forces and entering enemy territory, they can topple the big boss of the opposing forces, reshape the geopolitical landscape and, most of all, save the children. Everything turns out well, just like it does in real life. Siddig El Tahir El Fadil El Siddig Abderahman Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Karim El Mahdi was ok as Ajay.

I went into this knowing it wasn't going to be all that awesome and I honestly came away fairly satisified. It's a B movie but it's kind of fun. It's silly and could do things differently but it somehow found a little endearing place in my heart.

After the "You know what's worse than a dragon? An American" speech, my friend and I spent the rest of the movie's runtime coming up with every conceivable thing that could be worse than a dragon, such as two dragons, the apocalypse, this movie, etc etc. It was fun!

B-b-but. It starts off so well! Then out of fucking nowhere there's Matthew Mc-fucking-Conaughey. In all fairness it's not him that's the main problem (actually this is one of his better films) it's the third act that's just... silly.

despite this movie's many many many flaws it is actually surprisingly well acted with a great characterization by Matthew McConaughey showing us his woody Harrelson side and a decent performance from Christian Bale showing me finally why he has a career. Only his voiceover in the beginning could make me buy this premise even the slightest bit. Gerard Butler also appears as a boring supporting character. I kind of love/hate how the main characters inexplicably live through impossible things

Not a great movie, but it is a good idea and it's fun. Has some pretty good action, and Matthew McConaughey is good as the crazy hard-ass military man. All in all it's a good movie if you're looking for some entertainment, not if you're looking for depth or quality.

It's a pretty fun action movie. Not only do you get dragons (which are rarely done), but it's set in a futuristic world (at least until 2021 when it will be the past). It could have used more scenes with actual dragons (that felt budget related) and the script was pretty awful at times (notably McConaughey's character as a whole) so you may feel like it's dragging at certain times. However, it's very original making it's relatively minor flaws forgivable to me.

Despite the tag; this is not a Suspense/Thriller. And despite the dragons, it's not exactly a Sci-Fi/Fantasy film. More than anything, Reign of Fire is a Post-apocalyptic Survivor film. Throw in dragons, castles, cities burned down to ash and 3 talented (not to mention hot) action-heroes; how can you not enjoy this movie? But underneath the adventure, this film is heart-breaking and moving in how it depicts life in a world where we're not on the top of the food chain.

It feels like the many tedious, po-faced high fantasy works of any media which exist - removing the social ideas behind mythological beings such as dragons, and having a palette of grey and faeces brown and little else - only with tanks and Matthew McConaughey (of all people) being the dwarf. Like those works, its the worst kind of portrayal of Western mythology, the kind that is lazy and hasn't got the entertainment value to be as something as fun but dumb like Skyrim on your game console.

The big problem here is that despite having a number of good actors in the cast (even McConaughey is OK in this one), this doesn't really make up for the silly and predictable plot. It's unfortunate, 'cause the idea behind it is pretty cool. In the end I did enjoy it more than the score would indicate, it's fun to watch for the most part. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Reign of Fire is a dark, depressing movie about fire-breathing dragons. The tone is completely wrong for this type of film, and it's for this reason that it doesn't ultimately work. Having lackluster action scenes and not giving us many good looks at the dragons is part of the reason, but I think the whole bleak outlook on the story is the main reason. If you're hoping for a fun movie involving dragons, stay away from this one.

Things I learned from this film. 1. A dragon will survive a nuclear war, but shooting it in the face with a firework will prove fatal. 2. When everyone else chooses a tank or a helicopter, Christian Bale will choose a horse, because he's that damn cool. 3. The dragon-apocalypse will consist mostly of Star Wars recreations and burly men shouting at each for no apparent reason.

A fun sci-fi/fantasy action flick that has some decent action set-pieces and really cool looking creature designs. Christian Bale and Gerard Butler put in decent, over the top performances(as does McConaughey). I like the ideas surround the dragons and such, unfortunately the science is a bit wonky and the film dips a bit in the third act. That said, Reign is a entertaining flick and is worth a watch if you like sci-fi or fantasy.

How in the world was there only one male dragon? Come on? they could have just changed the story to be that there was only one breeding pair in the caves (in hibernation for years on end) and they came out, now it takes say 8o years for a female dragon to reach fertility! Whola! You now have a believable plot, oh except eating ash. And to fight dragons: why send three guys with virtually no probability of survival? Instead of sending one suicide bomber?
