A stowaway (Stanisław Tym) sneaks aboard a ship departing on a cruise down the Vistula River. The captain takes him for a Communist Party cultural coordinator and the intruder gladly adapts to his new role, immediately setting to work at manipulating the passengers and crew into silly and vaguely humiliating games. Quite funny little comedy. It's essentially an absurd send-up of Communist Poland; as such I'm sure its impact is stronger to native Poles, especially those alive during this era. However, much of the comedy transcends these cultural signatures -- for example, there's a hilarious scene where an elliptical argument erupts over how to go about voting for a voting system. Pretty great stuff.

A sarcastic lesson about culture, civilization and its ability to manipulate people.

The how to vote for a voting system was the highlight for me - but they are the kind of circular jokes that Python excelled in. Communist nostalgia was done better and was more accessible in Goodbye Lenin. Definitely one for local rather than global interest.

Haven't seen anything like it, but I still didn't enjoy it that much.
