If I lucked into marrying Milla Jovovich none of your videogames franchises would be safe. And they said sideboob in Adventures of Lolo couldn’t be done. There’s a stupid underground secret train, that’s the most resident evil thing of them all.

Originally I saw this movie in the theater, and during that part where Milla Jovovich kicks that zombie dog in the face, I LOST MY GODDAMN MIND. It was the funniest thing I had seen up until that point in my life. If this movie were solely THAT scene, it would receive a solid 100 from me. As it stands, this muddled and boring video game adaptation gets a 15. Ick.

Resident Evil Marathon, Hour 2: What is the audience for these films? How do they make money? I have so many useless questions needing answers. Two hours in, some themes come into focus: angry white boy rock music, script amnesia, and getting Milla into incomprehensible and/or half-naked outfits. The memory loss angle is a decent device to hold interest and keep us on the same page as our heroes. I saw better CGI on the Playstation.

When videogame spin-offs do not take themselves too seriously and keep that videogame clip feeling, they catch me. Also there is a CGI like lankiness to Mila Jovovich, so she is the perfect actress for this role (just like Jolie/Croft pairing). The rest of the series is badly rated, but this one was fun to watch gory enough but not distasteful, kinda has a story but do not forget that it is a zombie/horror thingie; it was done just right.

I needed a franchise to chew on during my self-quarantine, and I ended up settling on the movie adaptations of one of my favorite game franchises. And it's... okay. I was warned about how bad this was be, but I think it's a little misunderstood. This was a different time of hyper-serious bullshittery, and while the movie DOES NOT hold up to today's standards, it's a good time and quite fun in retrospect. That being said, cheers to going down from here.

Resident Evil is an acceptable video game adaptation. When it comes to movies we don't have much that keeps us coming back for more. Resident Evil is a series that isn't offensive but it isn't high art either. This first movie is a lot of fun. It follows the movie in places but isn't afraid to tell it's own story as well. Milla Jovovich does a good job of playing an amnesiac lead who is really a tank in heels. The rest of the cast is serviceable as well. I still enjoy this movie.

I was living in the middle of the city, across the road from Hoyts, and for those months I saw every film they were showing. Which is how I saw this on the big screen, never having heard of 'Resident Evil' in any form. I quite liked those shots of the mansion at the start.

Well, it could be worse. It's mostly a bloodless, bland affair that plods along at a decent pace. The soundtrack is grating and what little acting there is is pretty weak, but it has a zombie dog being kicked in the face, the always cool Colin Salmon being chopped up by lasers and Jovovich in various states of undress and/or wetness. Does Citizen Kane have zombie dogs or elevator beheadings? Hah! I don't think so!

Under Quarantine Film Reviews #33: So I just got Resident Evil 4 and I thought why don't I watch all 6 films. Although it barely references the games, it did capture the tight and claustrophobic settings of the original games. Although it was a generic 2000s action movie romp, I am interested in where the legend Paul W.S. Anderson takes the franchise.

A loud, obnoxious film with no feeling or joy in it whatsoever. I first saw this when I graduated high school, and the added maturity on my end hasn't helped Resident Evil's case (though I didn't like it back then either). The characters are so thin that we ultimately care little about what happens to them, and computer programs and shadowy, evil corporations rarely make the best antagonists. The soundtrack here deserves special attention as few scores have grated so strongly on the ear.

I may be biased, as I loved the game long before this movie came to be. Yes, it's action packed, but a lot of the tension and made-you-jump moments are gone. The actress portraying Alice is enjoyable, the effects are lovely, and the creatures are decently portrayed. Give it a whirl if you enjoy zombie-like, Apocalypse-style movies. Just note that it isn't an edge-of-your-seat kinda movie.

Resident Evil is based off of a video game. They are often loud, possess no character development, and ultimately make no impact on the entire industry. Resident Evil fits into a few of these clichés, but it certainly does not waste your time. It has a clear cut goal: make a fun zombie movie. It accomplishes that goal. It is a film that has a lot of problems, and certainly isn't all that good, but it is at least enjoyable to watch.

The game this is based on must be amazing bc although Jovovich is attractive/compelling to watch, there's nothing in this generic zombie flick to suggest 1 sequel should follow, never mind 5. It's not as awful as a Friday the 13th film, but the first 50 minutes are kind of reminiscent of one w/ interchangeable characters you don't care about getting offed. In fact characterization is non-existent here w/ things only picking up a lot in the 2nd half but only bc there's no story until that point.

As a big fan of the games i loved this film, the score/music was absolutely insane. The week after we were watching a different film and during a slow and quiet scene we heard the loud music from Resident Evil playing in the room left of us...we all wanted to go there and see some of that badass action again =D It's a overall good film. For a bad movie (or a Paul W.S. Anderson one), this isn't all that bad. Sure, it's a cheese drizzled zombie movie with some bad F/X shots, but the story keeps moving. And since Anderson's films are usually two steps shy of atrocious, this one exceeded my expectations of dreck and doom, and "Doom" this ain't.
