Retreat

I suppose if you are as mentally challenged as the three characters in this film, you will enjoy it as much as potato.

Quite good concept, but a few too many plot-problems and character-issues to make it a treat; fine cast though (and even finer is that age-improving Thandie-face). *Preview*: #13#, story, cast, R2.

Pretty good isolation thriller with a bit of suspense here and there. Just seemed to be missing something to bring it to next level. The three main actors did a fine job with their roles which at least keeps you interested to get through the whole film.

Great cast, but the script doesn’t match it. It’s slow, the character decisions are baffling, and it tries too hard to repeatedly hit the audience with surprises at the end, none of which are actually surprising. Not bad, but it needed a better script to utilize its talent.

Decent enough acting, with a concept just paranoid enough to promise some entertainment. But the script is lousy, the way the plot is (or, more to the point, isn't) worked out is just awful, and the characters keep doing idiotic things NO one would ever do. The whole thing is so very overwrought, to no good end. A total mess.

Good story, bad script with many flaws, below average acting...

Average acting, average script, average film. Has been done before and better. A few twists keep you interested.

Thandie Newton is beautiful & performs well. Cillian Murphy was also good. However, neither get many opportunities to shine in these roles. The plot is dark & twisted. Very low budget. It would have been much better had we had been included in the back story from the beginning. Flaws in the presentation subtract greatly from the overall enjoyment. The ending is too abrupt & disappointing.
