Oh hi puppets

Good premise but a slipshod execution. Period France was a noble goal but beyond the production's grasp. De-evolving the puppets was a huge misstep. In the end it felt like a high school production; theater vintage costumes and everything.

Jesus, DeCoteau sucks. Picking this guy to helm the flagship franchise leaves little doubt as to why Full Moon became a 90s trivia footnote (not because they commissioned him to direct in general, but because they somehow thought he would be a good choice for their killer puppet movies -- terrible decision in what was probably a long line of terrible decisions). Not that Full Moon was known for quality in the first place.

Why were the voices so bad, was anyone even an actual actor in the lot???

Better than the last one by a good stretch, but it's still the seventh in a horror series that was low budget by genre standards from the beginning. This one at least attempts to mix it up, but only does so in a pretty unoriginal way, prequels aren't very novel, and this one isn't even the first prequel in the franchise--it's just more prequel-y. It helps that the puppets had a design overhaul here too. It's always at least a little fun to see new ones.
