Return of the Street Fighter

Sonny Chiba eats a banana and showers himself in alcohol before beating the shit out of a bunch of goons.

An amoral hit & run mission of crazy violent kung fu feats in extreme tempo that should just be called The Street Fighter Again. Much like the original it's so blatant & comfortable with its utter stupidity that it successfully parodies itself. Major innovations: training montage overdose, jiving love-interest, banana+booze=over9000 rampage. A scene dedicated to methodically exhibiting the entire weaponry of Ninja Gaiden is kinda adorable. I dare anyone to question Sonny Chiba's badassness.

Feels like it was made people who didn’t understood what made the first work beside the fights and Chiba. One of the many problems is that he’s way too little on screen, instead wasting lots of time on long flashback footages of the first and training montages of irrelevant characters. A fight scene on a ski slope is exemplary of what’s good and bad of this movie; the fight is cool and fun, but there is no reason to be on that slope beside apparently wanting to shoot a fight in the snow.

Basically more of the same, except with a bit of traditional weapons thrown in, which is nice, but the story is (even) less exciting. Since no one ever poses a threat to the guy - most enemies go down after one blow - it's not like we ever really get to see the extent of Chiba's ability, and most of the "fighting" doesn't actually involve much of a fight.

Better than the first!
