This isn't cinematic greatness, but it's a really nice pleasant movie. I was surprised it takes over half the movie for the two leads to even meet, which might be why the emphasis seems to be on them as individuals rather than an on screen couple, but it works really well. Driver+Duchovny both come off as really sweet sincere people and even before you root for them to be together you're rooting for them to just find happiness. There's a good low key ambience to the whole film that's nice too.

Despite the ridiculousness of the plot (this is the hightened melodrama Almodovar must have been channeling for All About My Mother), the performaces, especially by the extremely strong supporting cast, rise this romcom above the slew of its horrible peers. Maybe it's my gender, but I wasn't crying; although I enjoyed myself to the end. I can't believe I believed it.

PeaceAnarchy expresses exactly how I feel in their review but I think that all that does add up to cinematic greatness. The smaller roles are all so human in a way that brings to mind Ebert's praise of the Star Wars characters having a place in their universe (original trilogy, of course). Bonnie Hunt did a fantastic job, sappy story or not. This is somehow a better version of The Lake House (which I also love in its stupidity for its smaller moments). I recommend.

Lovely story! Great acting, sweet script, totally touching without being depressing. A great "real life" blend of humor and drama. Nothing is taken too seriously, but nothing is taken too lightly. Some brilliant lines are written into this script. This is truly just a beautiful, timeless story that is a very worthwhile way to spend two hours!

If you're a sucker for romantic comedies, no matter how puke-inducing, there may be enough here to satisfy. Most others will think the film's heart is in the right place, it's the brain that needs a transplant.

This is quite a touching little movie. The conversations, arguments and family life all have a very authentic feel to them.

David Duchovny and Carroll O'Connor. Does life get any better?

Mawkish exploitation of grief and desire that leaves certain important aspects unexploited. Bonus points for casting the fetching Minnie Driver.

Watched this one again. I remembered it as set apart from other romantic comedies, and it is. With a great ensemble cast, premise and music, just a joy to watch.

Love the story, but not the subjugation of animals.

a fairly decent movie that is worth watching but is still another in a long line of romance/comedies/dramas. the acting is really good and the story is fascinating. but the movie gets boring and repetitive because it is slow paced.

Schmaltzy crap. David Duchovny looks bored throughout the whole film, Minnie Driver tries her damnedest to be Sandra Bullock, and with supporting actors like David Alan Grier and James Belushi even the comic relief moments are grating.

Nice story -- enjoyed seeing the X-Files references in the mise en scene. Another opportunty for Duchovny eye candy.

I normally eschew such fare (a man discovers his new girlfriend is the recipient of a heart transplant courtesy of his late wife) but the cast and their naturalistic performances carry this above the glass ceiling for this genre.

The supporting cast is colorful & interesting, the leads are cute & manage the romantic scenes nicely. The plot is so god awful inane, impossibly unbelievable, and predictable to the letter, that the movie turns into an exercise in boredom.

Better than most of it's genre, it's okay. The characters were the best part, especially the four old men lols.

An endearing film. From the era where they were making true instant classics such as You've Got Mail and Armageddon.
