Return to Paradise

It's really one of those films where the concept makes the movie. What would you be willing to sacrifice for a friend? There are numerous turns that are quite unbelievable, but overall the movie is able to strike a few of the right chords.

Not the best of Vince Vaughn's movie list, this movie just kind of dragged. Sure, it's got a "realistic look at southeast-asian prisons" and all that, but it didn't do much for me.

Strange movie. No one's motives or character as delineated by the script is particularly believable.

I'm always surprised more people haven't seen this movie. Intruiging premise, haunting performances (especially Phoenix's), and a rare straight man turn by Vaughn -- all good things in my book. Good film!

Jesus, talk about a fucking dilemma! Unearth this little-discussed but extremely powerful modern morality tale, a mature one too, and not a cop-out or an allegory. Supposedly it lost money at the box office, but I'm sure not as much as the Malaysian tourist industry.
