A small town nurse gets brutally attacked and raped in her own home by a mysterious man. Following his arrest, she starts to write to him but the letters all get returned unopened. Determined to confront him she then starts to regularly visit him in prison and seemingly befriends him, against her father's express wishes. Unable to understand his daughters intentions he fears for her safety come the time her assailant is released...but has he underestimated her strength and resolve? (Rotten Tomatoes)

Un message d'une banalité affligeante. La morale est brouillée jusqu'au bout, Rosamund Pike à peine remise de Gone Girl, nous refait le coup de la femme compartimentée, Nick Nolte a perdu sa canne à pèche, et Shiloh Fernandez est trop sexy pour le rôle. Jusqu'au générique, on se demande si ce n'est pas une énième bonne raison, l'unique raison de profiter du talent de l'actrice pendant une heure et demie.

Rosamund Pike'dan bir gerilim filmi daha. Bir serseri tarafından tecavüze uğrayan hemşiremiz, tecavüzcüden intikam almak için sinsi planlarını uygulamaya başlar. Stockholm sendromu gibi ilerleyen film, amacına ulaşana kadar bir oyun olarak görüyoruz. Sıkılmadan izlenir. İntikam almak hiç bu kadar zevkli olmamıştır.

Rosamond Pike's was gorgeous but her performance also included several confusing dazed and doe-eyed blank expressions. She portrays a victim whose restrained life is derailed by a vicious rapist. Unable to put the violent attack behind her, she becomes obsessed with getting closer to her attacker. Will getting close to him relieve her anxiety? Will they become intimate? Her intentions are a mystery, until the end. The conclusion was satisfying, but the final scenes were quite underwhelming.

I guess I don't really have much to say about this movie other than that I really appreciate that the rape wasn't romanticized or prettied up. I hesitate to think of this movie as a suspense/thriller, though.. It's not exciting enough for that.

The first and third act of Return to Sender are great. However, the middle act needed a lot of tweaking. There were many missed opportunities leading up to the final act. I wish the movie used the time wasted in the middle to go deeper with the first and third act. Rosamund Pike's acting was fascinating. She is so fun to watch on screen and, I look forward to future performances. I found Nick Nolte's character annoying.
