How immensely refreshing it is to see something from the early eighties sex-crazed comedy classics that manages to avoid any of the typically offensive material from that era that has aged so poorly - said no one ever (please don't read my review of Hardbodies)

Going out on a limb here, but this is a great case of the material surpassing the genre. It could have been really dumb and cornball (and thank GOD the remake idea was recently scrapped), but it's actually really funny! I've seen it dozens of times and I still laugh throughout. And there is no disputing the greatness of the climactic musical number, featuring "Booger Presley on the mean guitar". Well done Mr. Kanew, whoever you are.

I'm not one to harp on about how problematic a movie is or view that as the main point of criticism but holy shit is this movie irresponsible. I read even at the time no one wanted to be in it which is saying something. Against all odds it provides a couple charming moments and good performances but it's best forgotten to time.

Very good '80s comedy, and probably the best film ever about fraternities. Forget about Old School, forget about Animal House; this is how frat house comedy is done.

While watching this movie only one thought came to mind, I am watching someone's revenge fan fic. I seriously couldn't take this movie well, seriously. It was way too impossible and it seemed like the universe bends it self over just to make damn sure that the nerds get the perfect revenge fantasy.

The more I think about the film, the less I see the humor (which has aged poorly considering the extreme diminution of the social stigma associated with nerdiness since the film's release) and the more I see homophobia, ethnic stereotypes, voyeurism, and that incredibly creepy scene where a woman is tricked into having sex with the wrong man (which, last I checked, is rape). This film's message is that it's bad to be different, and if you are, then you have to trick women into sleeping with you.

Laid back and agreeably silly riff on ANIMAL HOUSE style hijinks has a fun and likable cast to paper over some of the more uglier set piece gags, which do cause an odd wince but skate by due to their inherent silliness. Meanders far too much to be able to build a satisfying head of comic steam; while McGinley is an effective "villain", he doesn’t really give the nerds a satisfying target to push back against. Outside of the quite wonderful “talent show” segment, it’s all bland and forgettable.

A defining film from the 80's Revenge of the Nerds brought all kinds of people to the theaters. It's got a good message that is hilariously disguised by an uproariously funny yet crude humored revenge story. No one can help but relate to this film in some way or another, especially no one who is reading this right now. Really good!

So dumb, so prdictable, so 80's So much fun! I still have a soft spot for thos movie an its sequel. They're so silly and formulaic, but the jokes work, and the acting is better than what you'd expect from an 80's movie dealing with horny nerds. Not for the tarkovsky fan maybe, but if you's like to laugh, this one still works.

"Revenge of the Nerds" has its fair share of funny moments and John Goodman in one of his first roles, its '80s vibe is largely enjoyable, and its anti-bullying message, which culminates in a rousing reappropriation of the word "nerd", is certainly positive, if occasionally a little on the nose. However, it is also full of stereotypes and caricatures, sometimes to the point of racism, and includes several grating scenes of actionable sexual harassment, which is just shrugged off and normalized.

Made long before 'nerds' refashioned themselves as 'hipsters', Revenge of The Nerds is an exaggerated reminder of a cultural past that now seems positively ancient. The 'nerds', led by the charismatic Carradine and his honking laugh, turn the tables on the 'jocks', gain respect and take over the campus. It's a superior college comedy with a fine assemblage of jokes and characters and a positive message, even if it inadvertently reinforces the winners-take-all aspect of American culture.

While not as classic as many of the other movies of its time period, Revenge of the Nerds still rises above cult status as it has carved its niche in the pantheon of 80's nostalgia. A lot of classic scenes makes this movie worth watching again and again.

It's become a matter of some consensus that this decade was a bad one for movies, but a good one for comedies. Revenge of the Nerds, and others, are oftentimes put forward as evidence of this. To this, I say no. I've seen most of these classic 80s comedies, and they're generally hack and formulaic, even for back then. Hear me? They're hack. You say it hasn't aged well? I bet this movie was never good. I bet that most of you were children in the 80s, and that's why you liked it.

Revenge of the nerds doesn't try to shoehorn in a socially redeeming politically correct message. In fact it seems to lampoon the whole concept of social acceptance and what is considered appropriate in American culture. The movie just boils down to nerds triumphing over jocks by getting laid and showing them up. It's simple but hilarious at the same time. If you're easily offended by blatant sexual, racial, or other stereotypes stay away.

Tiresome, yes, I agree t-mac. But when you go back to the early to mid 80's and look at the birth of college comedies you can't help but love what this flick did for the genre. The characters were tight, that laugh was epic, the flick clipped along at a tight little pace and hit all the marks expected of its type. I'll give it a passing grade and will probably rewatch it at some point, sober, and see if it holds up.

I have no idea how this gets the positive ratings that it does. I've seen a lot of 80's sex comedies, but few are as outright misogynistic & totally tone deaf as this one. Admittedly, there's a pretty neat teen romcom in here somewhere & some of the jokes are funny, but then there's everything else. The casual endorsement of rape, the panty raid, the peeping tom shtick, the "Pi Pies", the Asian guy who gets cheesy music over all his scenes, & so on. Good performances, fun idea, crappy movie.

Movies with similar comic aspects about college irresponsibility seems to be a popular thing. American Pie, Animal House, Old School, etc... they all share that kind of humor. Revenge of the Nerds shares humor like it, only with nerds and other outcasts. There were some things in the film that were hysterically funny and some not so much, yet it's a classic. No doubt about it. My favorite would have to be Booger. He's just that funny. A movie worth watching.

the nerd "pranks" were decidedly more malicious than the pranks played on them. these guys were some depraved criminals. they fortunately stop short of shooting up adams college(maybe this is played for comedy in the sequels i've yet to see). but ill admit i laughed plenty not despite this fact but because of it.

Very much a product of it's time. For starters, nowadays it's the nerds that are the cool ones. Then there are scenes like the ones with surveillance camera or the Darth Vader helmet which are very un-PC and creepy. Still, during it's best moments it's a fun 80's comedy which obviously owes a lot to Animal House.

Very funny, definitly silly and all in all somewhat of a precursor to comedy movies today about the outcasts of our college ranks. Unfortunately, we realize we can't live without nerds, but we are all nerds now. Who would have thought that? Besides is it really so bad, shoot most nerds have the best lives now.
