Not hugely funny, but it got a number of laughs out of me and there's plenty of interesting perspectives and poignancy in this.

Not as funny as I used to think it was... the Mudbone stuff is always a major drag. But lots of great bits.

Post-crack-smoking-accident Pryor is still good, almost as good as Live in Concert. I think his secret is being down to earth about everything, and the way he tells his stories is just funny.

I've been trying to catch up on classic standup comedians; I have to admit that a lot of them I respect more than I enjoy. But Pryor's performance here really works for me. The film itself is pretty straightforward but it does do a good job of capturing the feeling of Pryor live in a room with an audience, and it has a lot more vitality than a lot of filmed comedy does.

Not quite on In Concert's tier, but very funny nonetheless. The mafia bit is a classic.

Uneven, but the highpoints (Arizona State Pen, Africa, freebasing accident) are brilliant.

Not my favourite Pryor stand-up film, but it's still great stuff, boundary-pushing and energetic.

Pryor is hilarious, sure, but what really makes "Sunset Strip" worth watching is his profound reminiscence on his trip to Africa, and how it made him reflect on Black-American culture.
