Didn't expect to enjoy this much at all, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It seems I'm becoming a moderate fan of Kevin Hart's comedy stylings, despite my better judgement. This movie is by-the-book buddy-cop shenanigans, for sure, but it was a consistently amusing and pleasingly fun watch nevertheless.

It's not much of a movie - predictable and formulaic and only having two or three genuine laugh moments in its runtime - but I have something of a soft spot for the buddy cop formula. And the Super Mario Bros. theme song, which is featured as Kevin Hart's ringtone. Not gonna lie, that made me smile! Still... you should watch many other buddy cop movies first.

Hart and Cube have chemistry and I did chuckle a few times. Mostly though, it's a pretty unoriginal time. It could have been worse, however. I can't give it a pass or a rejection because it just kind of exists to be watched some evening when you got nothing better to do... or you're waiting to go do something better.

It's the tale of two films and is actually better when being serious. Hart of course plays the overzealous potential recruit to perfection while Ice Cube is the perfect choice for the hardened detective. They play off each other nicely and it works for the most part. It was more fun than I expected it to be. A tad bit too predictable and little too focused on the feel good narrative to try anything bold. It relied on being likable. Which it most definitely ended up being. A fun little film..

It is what it is, and it is funny. I'm definitely not a comedy guy, but once in a while I get convinced to watch these movies. I laughed hard at Hart. Like I said; it is what it is... - Okay.

Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are frequently unbelievable in these unlikely roles. The bad guys make so many mistakes that it becomes tedious. Especially bad is the hokey ending and final gun fight. Some of the dialog was moderately amusing. Unfortunately, it is overall mostly just forgettable.

Some funny scenes can't save this movie that can't really figure out what it's trying to be. Ice Cube keeps it pretty straight and serious as do most of the other actors and Kevin Hart seems to be starring in in a parody of the same movie.
