Ride Like a Girl

Enjoyable underdog story is carefully (perhaps too carefully) packaged as a feel-good crowd-pleaser; not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean its incorporation of the gender dynamics at play feel a little superficial and underdeveloped. Otherwise broadly follows formula, and Griffiths proves herself a great actor's director, coaxing a wonderfully natural comic performance from Payne, and expected scene-stealing from Neill (Palmer's lead feels a little too much a cipher at times).

One of my favourite movies. The mind blowing movie of female jockey. The story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. Payne is always told that she will never reach the world level, after all she is not a man and therefore not strong enough. However, she is not deterred by this and exercises hard. Her father Paddy and her family fully support her, although she has to deal with fractures and a death within the family.

Surprisingly well made "based on a true story"-movie.
