Dunno why Woody Allen cast an expy for himself if it was just gonna be another elderly man. Feel the heat between Wallace Shawn and Elena Anaya baby. I mean, Steve Guttenberg is in the movie, wouldn’t he have been a more believable lead? Highly up to date film with sequences parodying Citizen Kane, The Seventh Seal, Jules and Jim and Wild Strawberries, aka the newest movies Woody Allen has seen. All jokes aside, yeah, the dialogue is nice enough and 90 minutes pass harmlessly if generically.

Mislead by the trailer. The First 20 minutes I could live with this movie.

In a better world, Allen would be an outcast not for the dubious Farrow allegations but for making these dull, tone-deaf non-starters over and over again. Nonetheless, I'm glad (for posterity's sake) that the film looks professionally assembled.

As a largely staunch defender of Woody's post-2000 work, it's sad to report this is close to a catastrophic misfire; the romantic entanglements are half-baked rehashes of any number of his past screenplays - this still should have still been benignly enjoyable, but for the inconceivably bad, almost robotic performance from Shawn, whose peculiar pauses and deliberate phrasings do nothing here; in fact the entire cast is pretty poor top to bottom (with the exception of Waltz's amusing cameo).

Rifkin's Festival isn't as great a movie as Vicky Cristina Barcelona (both in Spain) but it's still pretty charming. It was very nice to hear the quotes from the films of masters such as Bergman, Godard, Truffaut, Fellini, Buñuel, Pasolini etc

Possibly a generous rating, and the constant references to canon art films and directors can be grating, even if some of the reimaginings of classic scenes representing Rifkin's fears are mildly amusing. Allen has done this all before and better elsewhere, but one has to admire the sheer stubbornness of it all, as well as his continued interest in pairing sexy women with ugly men.

The young director made a movie about war, he intends to make a movie the Middle East conflicts that would help the reconciliation between Israel and Arabs. On the other hand, there's a frustrated art teacher that can't finish his first novel, his wife is attracted to the young director. It represents different perspectives about art: there are those that use art for a moral or practical purpose, and those that see it as pointless, useless, more chaotic (closer to the way they view life itself).
