The worst thing about all these 100 year old shorts is you know exactly how they were made, and it's not exactly impressive. "Ok action! You are making gestures with your hands like you are angry. Good, now take two steps to the left. Perfect! Print that shit up." Repeat that process about 250 times in 4 years and you are now a 19th century American film producer. Those were the days....

Meh, I can't say I found this all that interesting, even when put in the context of its time.

A dull, lifeless affair. Never satisfactorily concluded. The final shot is a crabby old man stumbling up a hill. That's it.

My favorite parts- The "dwarf" clearly a full sized man unashamedly not even trying to hide that he is simply squatting and the poignant finish; a man slowly walking up a rock. Bravo Mr. Jefferson, Bravo.

It's not that bad. Just dull. And very abridged.

Unfortunately this ends up being more boring than I was expecting it would be.

It's nice that they thought to try and film a well-known stage actor in his most popular role. Unfortunately, it seems like the entertainment value of this particular performance is lost when you can't hear the lines being delivered. What we're left with is pretty dull to watch, though probably still a good document of theatrical staging of the period.

Comedy? Oh, eh... ok..?

Unlike the marvelous 2 minutes showcases of special effects by Méliès or the 1 minute documentaries by the Lumière, this short film, although valuable because of its age, gives me absolutely nothing.
