A early talkie from director Michael Curtiz which started gritty, but turns into a rather soft melodrama fairly quick. Charles Bickford in dual roles as the fugitive and the man that chasing him. He's basically chasing himself. Then the Mountie dies and hunted man takes his place. And the rest is him pretending and trying to court Evalyn Knapp. Could have been worse, but Bickford is a strong personality who growls through the primitive sound equipment of 1930 making sure there is life to this.
