Very average and not well directed for its genre -- seems more like a blockbuster adventure than a horror, due to some obnoxiously overly done music, though some suspenseful moments are handled well (and the final shot shocker is a hoot). The psychology of the under-slept and overly-skeptical truckie works fairly well with some helpful imagery and sound design to amplify it, though it's Jamie Lee Curtis who is horrifically under-developed and plays out more like a plot-point than a character.

A mix of The Hitcher, Hitchcock, and Stacey Keach just being great. All the weird sounds, music, and locals are show up as is most Ozploitation, and then there is this bizarre little thriller that rides on the back of Keach. Really enjoyable, even if it is tonally uneven.

I might have struggled to enjoy this but having Keach in the lead role makes me feel pretty good naturedly towards the whole experience. My favourite shit right here "he's an aristocrat - like me." And he's goddamned right.

Ultimately falls prey to bad screenwriting habits, taking shortcuts and leaps of logic to increase the thrills and tension, but otherwise a really fun thriller/horror with a great performance from Keach. The parts where it's just him being a slightly loopy truck driver are the best.

Interesting take on the serial killer truck driver script. In this instance the truck driver is stalking the killer. Decent enough film but a bit long in the dialogue and short in the action.

Having seen this as an adolescent, I rewatched it (August 7, 2010), and still found it to be largely enjoyable, with some good dialogue and characterization, and even some interesting camerawork, the whole being aided quite a bit by a very likable pair of leads. The greatest weakness is probably the fact that it is so preoccupied with character and mood that it forgets to create much tension in those scenes requiring it.
