A boatload of Westerners is trapped in Manchuria as bandits led by Russian renegade Voronsky ravage the area. Seeking refuge in a fortified inn, the group is led by the boat's Captain Carson, who becomes involved with a woman who "belongs" to Voronsky. Carson must contend with the bandits outside and the conflicting personalities of those trapped inside the inn, as well as dealing with spies among the inn's personnel. (imdb)

This is a pretty great B-movie from RKO. The story is a little limited as it's not a priority film by the studio, but there is so much atmosphere in this 'trapped in revolutionary China' story! And what a special cast collected! I wouldn't never in my wildest dreams thought I'd experience Edward Everett Horton as a machine gun crazed maniac! Look at those wild eyes! Sort of like RKO's version of Shanghai Express (1932). Not as amazing, but still a damn fine alternative!
