A mixed bag that I mostly enjoy despite its many flaws. If the whole movie lived up to Alan Rickman's performance, it would be a masterpiece. Someone please kill Bryan Adams.

Is that light Bryan Adams strings I hear accentuating every scene? Is that Kevin Costner speaking with an accent when the fancy tickles him? Oh man is that Alan Rickman devouring the screen, regurgitating it, then eating it back up with a SPOON 'CAUSE IT'll 'HURT MORE??? This movie is so awesome and shameless Michael McShane looks into the camera at the end and talks to you.

Some pretty stale dumb shit partially salvaged by a throwbacky style of Hollywood glorification and Rickman's singular overacting. Costner in this is just weirdly unlikable. I can see my nine year old self being impressed by such nonsense.

ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES makes it easy to pine nostalgically for the dumb Hollywood blockbuster of yore. It's a mostly successful attempt at blending action, romance, and historical drama into an easily digestible product that still retains a good deal of humor and heart. Alan Rickman eats everyone alive, while Costner can hardly be bothered.

English accents don't mean crap to a 5-year-old in 1991 who thinks this movie is the motherfucking shit. In the pre-Lord of the Rings days, the raid on the forest camp was epic as hell, and Alan Rickman (even if he may be phoning it in) steals each and every scene he is in, with a spoon.

It's Robin Bland vs. the Sheriff of Over-The-Top to see who has the Most Annoying Acting Style. A movie so morally and creatively bankrupt that it makes a joke out of rape. The only thing this piece of dreck is notable for is how many times Kevin Costner's accent changes, and a cameo from the grown-up Jack Wild (who played The Artful Dodger in Carol Reed's film of "Oliver!")

Alan Rickman steals the show as Prince John. He is potentially the only viable reason to watch this, if I'm being honest. Poorly paced - the first hour takes eons to set things up and then the rest rushes by in action scenes. Embarrassingly flat performance by Costner, Morgan Freeman acts and sounds like he went to the wrong set but rolled with it, and the cinematography is atrociously ugly - a surprise, considering it's from the DP of FULL METAL JACKET. Not suited for this at all.

Light (though with some dark tones), and with quite a childish script (but no doubt intended for kids), this might have been propaganda for a people's revolution against an oppressive tyrant (with the flaming arrows sequence standing in for a napalm attack on a Vietnamese village), right up until the last-minute appearance of Sean Connery re-established existing order. Unmemorable but (mostly) inoffensive, and therefore not wholly unlikeable. Interesting to see Jack Wild as an adult.

Mediocre adventure flick with some entertaining scenes. Rickman was hilarious but I thought Kevin Costner was completely miscast; he portrayed Robin Hood as a total pussy. Still, it's better than Scott's version. At least I laughed.

Despite its obvious flaws it still manages to be fun. It is not a great movie, sometimes it is not even a good movie, but despite this I find myself sticking with it. Costner's accent is a fail of epic proportions, but he still manages to be likable and helps the movie maintain its flow.

Flawed in places, but overall it's a rather satisfying action film. Costner is charismatic enough to pull off the lead and Rickman lends some levity to the entire affair.

I know it's really bad, but it's a childhood favorite of mine so I can't help but give it a 70. Besides, it has treehouses, swordfights, and a really awesome villainous performance by Alan Rickman. Maybe the Ridley Scott/Russel Crowe movie will be "better", but it won't be as fun as this movie was for me.

It's a fun adventure movie. It's not great but it's good. I've never ever understood the complaints about Costner falling in and out of an English accent because he never even attempts one. I suppose if that unrealism bothers you then this movie isn't your cup of tea but if you can like stuff like that go then this film is pretty good. Alan Rickman is a fantastic villian with a lot of humor that really steals the show.

Robin of Locksley is imprisoned in Turkey after the Crusades. He escapes with the help of Moorish inmates. When the two return to England, Robin finds out that his father has been killed by the Sheriff of Nottingham and that the people are being oppressed by him. He flees to Sherwood Forrest to engage the Sherwood people in a rebel battle with the sheriff from here.

"This is English courage," said in an identifiably Californian accent. Prince of Thieves delivers a mixed tone that inelegantly weaves swashbuckling action into the film numerous storylines over its epic (155-minute) runtime. There are some good ideas, but plenty of badly executed ones as well. Rickman chews scenery but is thoroughly entertain, while Freeman delivers his scene with a dramatic sincerity that I wish had been more present throughout. Costner is just okay, making the film mediocre.

A highly entertaining if not factually accurate - but who demands factual accuracy from a narrative film? - account of the myth that is Robin Hood. The Costner performance is often ridiculed but to me he is a highly likeable Prince of Thieves. Slater, Freeman and Mastrantonio all make for convincing characters, while Rickman is also very good (but only as part of the film as a whole). The Kamen score is epic. My favourite Robin Hood film.

Underwhelmed. Looking back, I'm not sure Costner had the charisma required to carry a movie of this length and scope. He has some chemistry with Freeman's character (and the nod toward some sort of social commentary here now looks clunky and forced, but good try), but none with Maid Marian. I also don't think this movie knew what it wanted to be. High drama? Camp? Camp is certainly what Alan Rickman's fine performance looked like. But the movie isn't sure and the tonal inconsistency hurts.

Not wordy but has plenty of heart. Not packed with action but combat is effective. It bestows environments with character not often seen. Still, worth watching again if you haven't seen it for some time.

Costner and Mastrantonio are horribly miscast in the lead roles. Costner is bland as ever and doesn't even bother with a British accent after a couple scenes. Robin Hood was a thoroughly enjoyable childhood film, but looking back it's hard to believe how much I actually loved it. Costner is such a likeable but overrated actor, he's painfully bland here and surprisingly the same can be said for Freeman. And Slater is absolutely horrible. However an over the top Rickman is as reliable as ever on villain duties. There are countless flaws and geographically it insults your intelligence. But as a child I loved this film and I have a soft spot for it still.

Sluggish, overlong telling of the Robin Hood legend is enjoyable enough for its better qualities, chiefly a hilarious bit of unhinged scene stealing by Rickman, a solid supporting bit for Freeman (even if the character is underutilised) and generally exciting action/adventure scenes. Costner's bland lead performance is a detriment, and the film often feels uncertain of its tone, veering from absurd farce, to quite brutal violence (sometimes in the same scene). Fun but mostly forgettable.

No one's finest moment is on display in RBPoT. Even a scenery-chewing Rickman and Freeman the Moor can't pull this movie out of 2nd gear. Weak subplots and strange cinematographic choices reduce the scope and impact of Robin's story to something bizarre and overly personal. Morgan Freeman scimitar wielding Moor seems to be the true hero of the story.

Am I the only one who hated Rickman in this? Of course it is Reynolds to blame for over the top villains in his films (remember Hopper in Waterworld?), but every time Rickman got a screen time I felt like throwing some rotten tomatoes. I have seen Disney's Robin Hood and the 1937 version that starred Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland and while both are enjoyable but I prefer this Robin Hood. It's not just because of Kevin Costner but Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman both have cool roles and I guess I can say the violence too. To sum it up, love the story, the movie is so-so.
