Robinson Crusoe

Bunuel does a standard Hollywood adventure film, and his signature is relegated to only a handful of images and scenes, like the one in which Friday questions the logic of Christianity. Worth watching, but not the best.

If it was all like that dream sequence.....

Expected more from Buñuel. It's a decent telling of a classic story but the source material comes off really dated and Buñuel does surprisingly little with it.

I have fond memories of my grandma reading me this book. This was a fine adaptation but nothing more.

Not a bad workmanlike adaptation, featuring a very good performance from the neglected Dan O'Herlihy, but somehow I expected more from the master surrealist. There is a good dream sequence, though, where Crusoe's father--who appears to be a sinister presence--offers him water.

Feels more like a second rate imitation of a minor Pasolini than a Buñuel. I expected much more from him.

Luis Buñuel's version of the Defoe novel (made in English) is free of that deadly solicitude that usually kills off classics. The film is a simple, unsentimental account of Defoe's basic themes: a man alone ... In the delirium sequence, Buñuel is the same startling director who made film history.
