Charming as all hell. Frank Langella and the voice acting of Peter Sarsgaard leads to a lovely little relationship between a medical assistance robot and an aging burglar. It's funny and light and a nice change of pace from the incredibly heavy tone of every other movie that talks about an older person who is starting to suffer from the effects of dementia.

I didn't care for the ending, but overall this was a treat. Langella's oldtimer and Sarsgaard's robot have great chemistry, and are ably supported by Sarandon, Marsden and Tyler. Even though the thematic points might not be as nuanced as those in 'Her', they're still fairly thoughtprovoking. The film asks if technology, in this case an artificial companion who's a good deal more friendly and compassionate than his human counterparts, should be allowed to replace real, living family and friends.

Quite unexpected. 5 minutes in and I was in love with this movie. A wonderful story, great acting, a little jewel. If this can be my future, I'll sign for it blindly.

popcorn movie. i liked it, langella does a great job and the dialogue with the robot is definitely charming. by the end i realized i just watched a perfectly entertaining movie that didn't really have any depth whatsoever.

Benign to a fault film about a pretty unpalatable subject is handled with grace and style by all the actors, but remains compelling thanks to Langella's touching and moving performance. The intriguing ideas and troubling implications inherent in the story really should have lead to a more thoughtful and complex movie, and it is a shame that these are not explored in more depth.

What a neat movie. I thought that this is a good example of thinking out of the box. A man who is suffering from memory loss gets a robot and teaches it how to do jewelry heists. Langella was just a joy to watch and Sarsgaard had a wonderfully soothing robot voice. This is one of the better buddy movies that I have seen in a long while. Even though it has some cursing in it, it is almost a good family movie. I loved how they showed real life robots in action during the credits.

Never quite makes the most of its assets or concepts, but is undoubtedly a charming and involving film. It's got a great cast who all perform, a subtle but very effective soundtrack and is just a really well put together picture.

Sometimes humorous look at aging and robots as a personal assistant. It examines the human tragedy of losing one's memories in a subtle way. It also presents a cute story of a reluctant friendship with technology. The story is endearing despite the mans larcenous flaws. There is also elements of a cat and mouse chase near the end. Their unlikely friendship was sweet and entertaining.

A wonderful, sweet movie; a low-key, thoughtful blend of Intouchables, AI and ET. Frank Langella makes for an excellent lead.

It really doesn't hurt anyone, but it really didn't do anything either. Frank Langella is excellent in his role, and so was ROBOT SARSGAARD! Both pull off an interesting relationship between the two, but I'm still not entirely sure what this movie was all about. I enjoyed it, I'll probably remember it vaguely through time, but it won't really stick with me though which is a shame.

What a lovable film! Frank Langella does a great job, and the bond he forms with that robot is truly endearing. The direction, cinematography, and use of music were all top notch. The only thing holding this movie back is that the reach of the script felt a little limited. However, that only being a minor complaint this film was a marvelous treat.

Short and sweet with an adequate dose of tenderness but it never really pushes any boundaries and it ends too neatly to have any sort of lasting impression.

An okay, harmless story from the near future. Or was it only an imagination of an old man? There was not much deeper exploration of the other characters than Frank and I expected a bit more from the story. But safe for everybody to see and the idea of the plot was well chosen.

Interesting, fun, and charming. Frank's character is a joy to watch, especially played by Langella. And the robot works remarkably well as a reflection of humanity. I would really love to see the "robot buddy movie" becomes a new subgenre, because I could watch something like this all the time.

Spoiler alert, turns out the grumpy old man protagonist was right: change is bad, and the new generation are all a bunch of stupid cunts! There's a potentially fascinating kernel of an idea in this about Langella's failing memories and how he's being manipulated by the people around him, but it's buried so deeply under a pile of indie-movie clichés and bad tropes that it just gets suffocated. Also is there a human being alive who didn't guess the twist within the first 5 minutes?

I wish this were a little sillier or a little more determined in it's analysis in it's character with Alzheimer. It's just at this odd place where it's very good but it feels like it's pulling it's punches in some direction.

An entertaining film, which raises interesting questions regarding existence, cognition and morality. I like how it's produced and it reminds me of some of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror. Overall, it's a pretty good watch.

Too cheaply made --the was so obviously a person inside a crap costume. And that basically ruined the film for me. I mean, if you're going to make a flick about a robot/human relationship, at least make an effort on the robot.

I quite liked this nice little film. It had some both touching and interesting things to say about old age and artificial intelligence. Frank Langella was really good, and Peter Sarsgaard worked well as the voice of the robot. Some people have complained it doesn't quite commit to a genre, but that didn't really bother me. I recommend it to anyone.

A very enjoyable drama with just the right amount of tongue in cheek. Despite the less-than-promising cast of stereotypical characters, the script manages to walk the fine line between too-normal and too-wacky for a surprisingly long time. All the supporting characters served some purpose, and there was even a clever and touching twist towards the end. Suffice to say I was pleasantly surprised in more ways than one.

There's an excellent concept here and this is an okay take on that. I'd really like to see it done again but with a bit more effort put in across the board. The robot does an excellent Michael Emerson impression though.

A little overdone; silly nods to famous movie robots, some way OTT characters and it's a scene too long - but it still works. It's about memory, ageing and it's a buddy movie, most importantly it's about the ethics of AI with a robot that can easily lie, robots don't rob people...

Unusually low-key and somewhat melancholy approach that prefers to raise its questions subtly rather than head-on (although some of the characterisation is less than subtle). The ending does seem to possess a certain amount of ambiguity.

Christopher Ford pens a fantastic, hilarious and poignant script with Robot and Frank. Unfortunately the other elements never really allow the source material to take off. In spite of its lackluster direction, the cast delivers on most fronts - Langella and Sarsgaard are both terrific as the leads and Sarandon and Jeremy Sisto are fantastic in support.

It kind of bothered me how often the movie hints at an upcoming big depressing ending. It's like you just start to get into the movie and enjoy yourself, then a line will come along that makes you go "oh, it's going to end in a sad way." Also, I'm not too sure what I was supposed to take away from the movie... I guess the idea that robots are awesome? Family is a pretty good thing too, but... Mostly, robots are the best. We should make more robots.

At heart, Frank & Robot is, true to its title, a buddy movie about the complicated relationship between a thief and his mechanized sidekick (a sleek, white, helmeted creature voiced with unsettling politeness by Peter Sarsgaard). But it's also a rueful and funny reflection on aging, death, parenthood, and technology.

Intriguing little sci-fi fable about an aging jewel thief (Frank Langella) saddled with a helper robot (voiced by Peter Sarsgaard) whom he trains successfully in the art of lock-picking. But, of course, things ultimately go awry. Langella is spot-on, handling Frank's growing dementia subtly while taking joy in his old tricks. Uneven and marred by underwritten supporting characters, but often touching and funny; fine special effects given the low budget. Lovely score by Francis and the Lights.

This could well have been a cut plotline from Stand Up Guys, bar it's futuristic element. And the fact it's nowhere near as good. Langella delivers and it's a perfectly nice film to sit through, but R&F is too light in too many areas (drama, amusement, plot, characters) to really push the buttons it wants to. While not quite living up to its potential, it does manage to raise some poignant issues about ageing.
