Rock Star is a bore, one with a plot that you'll easily be able to figure out how it ends way before you should. There's no drama, no tension and nothing to keep you watching. Wahlberg has some stage presence as the lead singer of the band, but it can't save this movie from being an incredible bore. There's no draw for the audience, and for a drama like this, you need one.

It isn't as good as ALMOST FAMOUS given the similar subject matter, but ROCK STAR delivers entertainment with heart, especially for those who grew up in the 80s.

Fairly entertaining. Wahlberg is very likeable, and Olyphant & Spall are really good. Cool seeing all the cameos from actual rockers.

Marky Mark as a meat-headed metal fan who joins his favorite band. UGH. This movie plays out pretty much exactly like you'd expect it to every step of the way.

The two leads drag down a surprisingly strong supporting cast.

It goes by easily, the cast notably features actual rockers, the concert sequences are pretty exciting, and strong moments include Emily's side story and Chris and Mats's last couple of scenes. However, it often feels like a collection of cliches (oh look, a TV thrown out of a window!) as if an outsider put together a bunch of headlines while the characters take a back seat. I'm sure Ripper's story was interesting - and real - enough, so it's a pity they went with this highly fictionalized take.

Although it's cheesy and the story does not really add anything to the rise-and-fall story template, it's still very enjoyable and better than many give it credit for.

Not very entertaining at all. Standard "boy gets fame and discovers it costs him something he really loves" tale. Not very interesting at all and none of the acting is very memorable either.

Great film! The only thing i didn't appreciate was the coffee house music that was somehow better? than the Rock 'n' Roll. P.S. The rockstar fantasy description is awesome.

An uninspiring and familiar story of a boy who is handed his dream but it costs him something more important. On the up side the music is fantastic and its portrayal of the excesses of 80s rock is excellent.

Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll! We've all seen or heard this story before so there isn't much new here. The story was good enough to hold the movie together, but I think the most interesting part was the depiction of the 'decade of excess' that was the 1980s. The romance sub-plot was not all that interesting.

To light to be a serious film, to serious to be a comedy. This was half way there. basically, if they'd picked a direction it might have worked but as it stands it just falls flat...

I actually like Marky Mark as an actor, but he does this same story and character far better in Boogie Nights, which is a film on an entirely different playing-field. Rock Star isn't bad, but its forgettable.

This fantasy rock tale focuses on a young man (Mark Wahlberg) who works a boring job on the weekdays, lives with his parents, and tries to keep things together with his girlfriend. He is a weekend warrior of rock however, playing in his own struggling band, while worshipping metal gods Steel Dragon. When the lead singer of Steel Dragon leaves the band hanging, they happen upon Wahlberg, who is not only a dedicated fan, but a rather talented singer. This film follows his rollercoaster ride t

As video rental shop had 2 in 1 offer, i took beside "American Pie 2" this DVD about rock fan who becomes a rock star. After seeing many movie-musicals like Chicago, this one is quite refreshing. The plot is sweet and the musical score rocks. Stephen Herek didn't succeed with the subplots though.
