Romance on the High Seas

Especially dumb rom-com where neither the wife nor the husband trust each other. Add in Doris Day as a rather unpleasant, clueless singing ingenue and it leaves things wide open for S.Z. Sakall and Oscar Levant to steal every scene they're in. Jack Carson manages his role with charm and aplomb. DonDeFore looks oddly like a nebbishy Alec Baldwin in this. At least the songs are better than in most Doris Day movies, and her singing isn't quite as colorless as usual (if Wonder Bread could sing...).

Coincidentally i'm watching Janis Paige's starring vehicle on her 99th birthday! Romance on the High Seas (19489 is truly joyous cruise in color and filled with music. Most importantly it's Doris Day's movie debut! And naturally she steals the picture in this comic jealousy farce. Instant star! And along with gullible corny guys like Jack Carson & Don DeFore and a large host of Hollywood's favorite supporting acts, the mix is near complete for a piece of fluff comedy like this.
