Anne and "Poppy" Rose are the average American family, with three quirky kids. Anne has a good heart and gives lost cats and dogs a home - and one day also the orphan Jane, a problem child who already tried to kill herself once. At first Poppy is worried and wants to get rid of her, but with love and patience they finally manage to integrate her into the family. Just then Anne invites another orphan, the aggressive handicapped Jimmy-John, to their summer vacation. (imdb)

I've been looking for this Cary Grant movie for a while. So happy to finally get to see it. Funny and emotional family drama with good child actors, and the married couple is completely believable. I really enjoyed watching their family unit in action.

Ah, the days when one could show that a recently delinquent kid is now trusted by hiring them to babysit a neighbour's newborn, or giving them a massive hunting knife for Christmas. Cute and heartwarming, with Grant at his befuddled best.

great cast, cary grant is cary grant as usual, betsy drake is amazing and even the kids (george winslow's deadpan especially of course) were impressive. humor is excellent and some great grant wit -- "what's that supposed to be?" "a woman" "not a very good likeness." "i had to draw it from memory". story was fine, even if it bordered on propaganda for supporting foster care.

A lesser film would have revolved around Jane's initial 12 days and the family keeping her, then roll credits. Here, it feels like a sitcom with an overwhelmed dad and an unbelievably patient wife. The final 3rd was anti-climatic and felt like a PSA for foster care and the Boy Scouts. Ben was a nice boyfriend for Jane. I'd watch more adventures of this family and their solid middle class life with a beach shack and Grant's fish boss. Fav scenes: "let's write each other" and drawing from memory.

A rare domestic film with Cary Grant, co-starring with his wife Betsy Drake, trying to create the idyll they never had in real life. Here they even had a bunch of kids and adopted more to help compensate for the lack of chemistry by the future bitter divorcees. It's all done in that very Cary Grant manner, getting attached to the kids and their special problems. I found it a charmer. Even Drake was okay. Better than the first one they did together. This would be their last pairing of the two .
