A contemporary criticism would have to bring up the abundant amount of male chauvinism, misogyny, and racism present in this film under the guise of cocky John Wayneism. Feels like you are re-wathcing True Grit in your sleep. Sub par western in my opinion.

Soppy, lightweight cash-in sequel to True Grit.

it's actually better than true grit, wayne ages well, better than hepburn, actually. rooster is a bit more irritable than in the last movie, and it suits him well, the chemistry between wayne and hepburn is immaculate.

Enjoyable western romp which would be worthless if not for the legendary teaming of The Duke and Kate, who bounce off each other with intuitive ease. Unfortunately the plottier elements of the film don't work as well; it's telling that the 'gun-fight' scenes are the dullest in the film. For a truly great film about Hepburn battling the elements, check out THE AFRICAN QUEEN, the movie ROOSTER clearly aspires to be.

Real good western. Seeing these 2 legend on screen together is fun. Also a well thought out sequel.

How much more "sequel" can a sequel be? Shameless rip-off of the first part, few nice scenes to make it less bad. Still: fail.

Classic western with its doses of fun, cheesy jokes, and decent action.

Not a bad western - subtle mix of drama, comedic twists and strong characters. Wayne is .. well Wayne, but Hepburn steals many of the scenes they share. Reasonable storyline and stands up as a stand-alone film (albeit this is the follow on to True grit). Strong cinematography too..

One of Wayne's last performances, this is a film worthy of note. A good Western.

Reuban (rooster) Cogburn is a Character that was made for Wayne and he plays him well. Kate Hepburn as always is Superb even in a western . If you liked this see "True grit"

The character Eula Goodnight (Katherine Hepburn) is bordering on annoying, but otherwise watchable. Not having seen 'True Grit', I think the movie stands on it's own, but if I have to guess not as good as it's predecessor.
