A jolly good time. To be fair, I started on this before I'd seen Hamlet and it felt like I was missing half of the joke. So after rectifying that, all the elements clicked a lot better. It's a blast to watch Roth, Oldman and Dreyfuss goofing around, playing mind- and wordgames, nearly stumbling into all kinds of physics revelations and being powerless to change their inevitable fate. Playful, meta, and catnip for classic play/literature fans.

The movie is merely a recording of a play... but wow, Tom Stoppard can write and Tim Roth really delivers.

I liked this little movie. I still need to watch Hamlet, but I loved Oldman and Roth, because they are what make Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead wort the watch. Never really gets boring (especially for something that's really just two guys exploring things through physics and curiosity).

Oh yes, I love this movie a lot. The way they play with words and ideas is so much fun that it never gets old. And watching adorably young Tim Roth and Gary Oldman interacting, with Richard Dreyfuss often popping in to play along, is just delicious.

Essentially this is jut two hours of clever wordplay and playful meta-commentary on Hamlet, no more no less. But that said, if clever, rapid-fire banter is high on your list of cinematic pleasures (which it is for me, near the top), this has some of the best dialogue i've ever heard, enough to cancel out whatever the film inherently lacks in "cinematic-ness" (after all, it's based on a play and doesn't really try to hide it).

Not as good as the stage version; it sticks a bit too close to the "naturalistic" style of film, and thus, some of the artificiality that makes the play work is lost. But Oldman and Roth are absolutely excellent, and there are some things, I will admit, that they do on film that they couldn't have done on-stage.

A curates egg of films. Oldman, Roth and Dreyfuss are impressive although some of the intellectual jokes do require a knowledge of Hamlet for the best effect. An investigation into the meaning of being, life and death - not for the faint hearted as it can be heavy work and it's not a laugh a minute. More of an occasional smirk with some thought rather than a rib tickler. Thought provoking, intellectual and very competent but one for the purists.

The dreamlike "Hamlet" setting is filler; it's really a collection of a few dozen skits. Most are word play and references to scientific discoveries. The really interesting ones explore probability, memory, and death.

A fun and bizarre little comedy notable for featuring Gary Oldman and Tim Roth as one of the greatest comedic duos in recent memory. Richard Dreyfuss is fun in his limited supporting role and Iain Glen makes a good Hamlet. It does a good job living up to its great premise of looking into the lives of two characters that are essentialy extras in one of the most famous stories ever told.

Roth and Oldman are fantastic together. There are a couple aspects that don't work as well as in a play format (the underlying reality and context changes, which makes some of the existential points less intense), but this is still an excellent post-modern drama.
