I'm a big fan of director Victor Salva's other films, including the two Jeepers Creepers, so I was looking forward to checking out this one. Rose McGowan lends a kind of feminine gravitas to the film that I don't see much of but unfortunately the monster -- a paper boy who may or may not be supernatural -- just isn't scary enough.

I don't think Victor Salva is good, but he does do things a bit differently, and I appreciate that. Unlike most supernatural horror, Rosewood Lane doesn't go through the tedious motions of a pointless mystery investigation. The absence of gratuitous explanations relieved me, but then, one wonders if the antagonist's superpowers are altogether necessary. The finale is almost silly. As a character, he veers between seriously disturbing and cartoon-character irritating.

A woman returns to the home she grew up in after her father mysteriously dies by falling down the stairs. No surprise this is a tormented girl who can't commit to a man because of the abuse she suffered as a child which supposedly makes her a strong and compelling character like every other girl in a horror film. The acting was good, the production value was pretty good, the scares were okay, but too few and far between, the conclusion was ramshackle at best, the villains powers were random.
