This is an interesting story. The cast does a good job in this movie especially Nia Long. There are some slow spots in this movie. Overall I would recommend this film.

okay movie

Fans of 80's rap music hoping for a fun look back w/ some behind-the-scenes on rappers of the time look elsewhere. Unfortunately this turns out to be something more like an update of the Color Purple but nowhere near as good. The film's got an agenda and that agenda is: men are horrible. This might be tolerable if it wasn't filled with moments that ring false as the filmmaker blames all of Shante's (and her mother's) problems on the men they choose to trust despite a parade of red flags.
