{Q: What's a light year? A: Just like a regular year, only with less calories.} There. That's the ONE funny joke in this movie. Now you don't have to see it.

A decent film. Unfortunately, the fact that it is a clever retelling of a classic love story is lost on about 93.257% of the people that remember this film as "the one where Steve Martin has a big nose."

Inoffensive, cute version of the Edmond Rostand play with a few cute moments, but mostly typical of 80s romantic comedies.

I've always loved Cirano de Bergerac, but who doesn't want to have a happy ending. This is Steve Martin at his best in the first of his retold stories.

Quiet comedy with a couple of painfully funny moments. Gentle performances and semi-believable love story.

Steve Martin never topped the early silliness of The Jerk or The Man with Two Brains...

Steve Martin...you here that name and you know that you are going to enjoy whatever it is. Wether if it's a movie, or a show, he always gives aperson good laughs. And this storyline, which came from a classical novel, was just amazing.

A Steve Martin classic. I laughed till I cried the first time I saw this movie.

I guess it does have jokes and a romance and isn't particularly terrible. It's not particularly good either, though, with a predictable and not very fleshed out story.

Takes the highlights from the original, but it just doesn't flesh out the story enough to be anything but a failed romantic comedy.

Unsuccessful updating of Rostand. I find the duels (Tennis rackets, etc.) particularly silly, and a lame-o volunteer fire department is no substitute for a company of Gascon guards.

Very cheesy 80's romantic comedy. The entire premise of his big nose being a handicap and comedy gimmick is just a rehash of all those mentally ill, convict, bad boy, etc.. falls in love stories.

Charming and funny. It was witty like an old film but had the common humor of the new (that's more of a minus) and I loves the could have insulted me better monologue.

Another fairly decent 80's Steve Martin flick. It is no gutbuster but it works better than it should. Also featuring Daryl Hannah when people actually knew who she was.

Nice modern adaptation of Cyrano. The insult countdown in the bar is a classic. Also: "Wait, what did you think I said?" "Earn more sessions by sleeving." "Well what the hell does that mean?" "I don't know. That's why I came out."

Wonderful mindless film. One of the true definitions of a romantic comedy. Some of the scenes are just sublime, especially the ones in the restaurant with the darts man and the one with the aliens and the old women. Acting a bit wooden at many points by Hannah. Martin on top form. Firefighter cast very good slapstick stuff. Get the impression that CD is the only smart person in the town. Doubt if true.

I'm no romantic expert but it seems like there's always something about movies like this that could be way better. This one is better than many but still feels a little stodgy, musty, even insulting, in a way that's hard to pin down.

It sort of works as a romantic comedy, but it has ridiculously silly bits that don't mesh with the sincere romantic moments. Those silly bits are what make the movie memorable though. So the movie is flawed, and just not consistently funny enough.

Yes, its a stupid Romantic Comedy...but Steve Martin...AND THAT NOSE! Hardly the best representative the genre has to offer, but this is still fun and charming. Fans of Steve Martin won't be disappointed.

If you're watching this for the romance, you'll be disappointed. Martin is, as usual, terrific when the story is his (the opening "fight", the bar smackdown), but it loses a little steam when trying to shoehorn the old play into a modernized version.

Umm... It's certainly a concept. If it wasn't for Steve Martin, this would be unbearable.
