Bava's heart wasn't really in westerns, and it really shows here, moreso than in Fort Alamo. It almost plays like a bad parody of spaghetti westerns; the sub-Morricore score is brazen in its blatant mimicry. There is no doubt that it's often trying to be funny, it just never is, and without the usual formal compensations, Bava is barely keeping his head afloat in this milieu, which is not at all suited to his strengths as a creative stylist.
