This is where Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau met. Or they knew each other before this. What do I care?

Too self-consciously "inspirational" to be a masterpiece (and the historical inaccuracies don't help), but has enough humor and charm to carry it through.

A very effective little movie. Structured brilliantly, in fact. With so many obstacles and naysayers around him, I think Rudy could have been striving to ultimately kill somebody and by the end I would been shouting "yeah Rudy!! Kill that guy!" But Astin really is perfect here, 100% believable and very charismatic. An enjoyable film.

Copious inaccuracies aside, I can't deny what a warm and inspirational experience it is. Jerry Goldsmith's awesomely cheesy score is the stuff of 90s movie trailer legends.

Rudy has to be the quintessential "underdog" sports movie, because the character the film is named after simply does not have the physique to be competitively viable. Knowing this, Rudy really is a heartwarming lesson in perseverance and challenging the inevitable. It's a simple film that does what it sets out to quite well.

Based on a true story. For some reason, I've seen this movie about 6 times, and have yet to get tired of it.

Rudy is a good film, dont get me wrong, it just isnt the best picture of all time. It tells a heartwarming story but at times it seems to lose itself in its own positive message. Rudy does a good job of showing us that we should never give up, while reminding us that what we strive for is never easy to obtain.

I don't understand why I watch this film EVERY time it comes on. It's not a great movie, but I just have to watch the little fella make his way to the field.

This same underdog story may have been played out hundreds of times before, but damn it all, get a fine cast (shout-outs to Astin, Beatty and Prosky) and a director who knows how to balance the corn and inspirational/aspirational “feels” and you can’t really go wrong; if there’s a problem here, it is the slightly sluggish pacing which can trip up this sort of film where the outcome is clear from the first frame. Honorable mention to Miller, who adds a warmth and gravitas to an underwritten role.

As inspirational fluff it works fine, but it's full of clichés and the brutality of football comes through just enough to make the whole thing feel somewhat offputing, but not enough for that to be meaningful commentary.

Admittedly, about 30 of these points are for Jerry Goldsmith's music, but this is still about as good as schlocky, sentimental, inspirational Hollywood movies can get.

God, is this a sappy, manipulative movie. Yet its considerable charm somehow--almost miraculously (and I use that adverb in its most literal sense)--saves it from being utterly nauseating.

Not bad by any means, but wildly overrated. Other than the iconic jersey scene and the great score, it's a very middle-of-the-road effort.

I'm not sure how accurate it is (because it's "inspired" by a true story), but it's awesome for what it is. You see this kid being shit on for the entire movie. And by the end when he finally gets his shot, and shows everyone, it's just excellent. It gets me teared up every time.

HOLY COW, I didn't remember this movie being so corny until I re-watched it recently. It starts out really well but ends up being pretty sappy and cliche. Regardless, I'll watch it from time to time 'cause I enjoy these sorts of films against my better judgement.
