For the most part, Lola is a non-stop thrill ride, it is extremely fast paced, and the editing is extremely quick and smooth. The film is quite hysterical at times too, and not in a good way. Lola is so over the top sometimes, and there are so many idiocracies, that you are forced to laugh, but even still, Run Lola Run is a film that most people can enjoy, it may not be the favorite in the lists, or the lowest, but it is certainly appreciated and worth a watch.

Phew. I'm exhausted. This is not the type of movie I'd want to see on a weekly basis, but as a change of pace from what I'm normally used to, this was awesome and in a word:frenetic. In a good way. You've got an incessant, pulsing score that does enough on its own to increase your heart rate; cartoon interludes; ADD editing; the works. And in the end, it actually makes you think about the mundane choices we all make, and the consequences that they have for us, and for those we barely know exist.

This gimmick movie has clearly found inspiration in other "slick" euro-arts, but unlike, say, Trainspotting, this never escapes that terrible film school mold - that "Nice try, but.. naah" feeling. Especially the "fate-changing" encounters are ridiculous. Something similar was attempted in 'A Sound of Thunder', and that one had baboon-dinosaurs. Prosecution rests.

I wanted to see this movie because Tom Tykwer had the best clip in Paris Je t'aime. I didn't get dissapointed, although it was absolutely not the thing i had expected. He found the recipe of blending an action movie and an independent film and still make it taste like a real, good movie. I like HIS way of hyperkinetic filming and editing, puts a little twist in everything you're watching.

Ooh baby, if Lola knew parkour she would've got this shit done in half the time. The stakes didn't quite work for me as there wasn't a direct personal threat to Lola and the boyfriend was pretty much completely unlikable, but there is a lot of great stuff here. I think this movie was produced by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

A fun and cheerful diversion feels like Tykwer is showing us what he can do with considerable visual and constructive capability; film is ultimately too cutely 'meta' to work as believable (or especially compelling) drama, though there are considerable treats along the way, especially the ultimate fate of a pane of glass! Potente is ideally cast, and runs very convincingly!

Raw power. I'm reminded of The Prodigy's song 'Diesel Power': "Win, spin back, rewind - diesel power / blows your mind drastically, fantastically." Experiencing it is a bit like experiencing a (really, really) good Prodigy song while (really, really) high. Mindblowing.

Kieslowski's Blind Chance for the cyberpunk scene. Wants to be philosophical but has more energy than ideas. I'll give it credit for doing what it says on the tin, she runs. Her technique is lacking though, pro-tip: gotta straighten those hands to achieve a full Tom Cruise sprint when racing against fate. That's how he minimizes wind resistance.

I was obsessed with this film in the late 1990s/early 2000s as a teenager studying German at high school. And, 25 years after its release (I just watched it for the first time in about 20 years), it still holds up well as something more than a gimmick; it's a reminder that cinema can be fun because of a dynamic narrative and a fit-for-purpose mise-en-scène. Sometimes all you want from a film is a Wizz Fizz experience that also exemplifies tychism.

With largely absent characterization, several highly implausible, unrealistic moments, abundant cliches, an inexplicable gimmick of a structure and dated aesthetics (the techno soundtrack and an editor suffering from frequent convulsions), "Lola rennt" is a standard, forgettable action flick that becomes worse the more you think about it, but, provided your brain power remains unused, is quite engaging thanks to its brevity, fast pace, energy and strong performances from Potente and Bleibtreu.

Ah yes, overwrought acting, fast-paced editing, a high-octane soundtrack, and cursory treatment of existential questions - this is the full-on MTV generation. But what can I say, so am I and so this editing and music works for me - not to mention telling three stories in one hour rather than the inverse. Just Bleibtreu's acting is inexcusable no matter which generation you stem from.

Thanks to an appropriately brief running time, tight pacing and editing, and its alternate timeline premise, 'Run Lola Run' exhilarates without exhausting, and gets away with suspending disbelief where other movies might fail. I watched this in a film studies class back in high school, and I didn't have much experience with foreign films or more experimental genres, so Run Lola Run was an exciting new experience for me. The concept is brilliant, covering a question I'm sure we've all thought about at one point or another-- what would happen if I'd only been there one second earlier? One second later? How would that have affected my destiny? It would be so cool to see more choose-your-own-adventure flicks like this.

Suspense / thriller? No, its nothing more than 75 minutes spent enjoying the efforts of someone trying to do something a little different with cinema, and generally succeeding. This is a fun, energetic, interesting and thoughtful race through the streets of Berlin in the company of Franka Potente, who is a wonderfully engaging and likeable heroine. Generally the "groundhog day" type replaying doesn't appeal to me, but RLR shows how it can be done with style, pace and a great soundtrack !

Fun, but maybe a little too shallow. I like how it has a bit of everything - some action, some comedy, some metaphysics, and some great kinetic camerawork. Although I didn't understand why the horrendous animated sequences were included - they didn't gel with the rest of the picture at all and took me out of it a little. The exploration of chaos theory was also a little weak, but the film moves so quickly it hardly matters.

If anything, this feels like a contemporary Citizen Kane. Not because it's a 'masterpiece' or the 'best movie ever' or any such nonsense. But because it's a box of movie magic, pulling out all the tricks it can, letting style blatantly transcend substance, and owning it. Tom Tykwer's hyperkinetic thriller still looks pretty good, even if it is fairly hollow (and the characters, Manni especially, are a bit hard to like). The "multiple possibilities" narrative works well--and kudos to the film for not tying it up QUITE as neat as you might think--but what really shine here are Tykwer's inventive, energetic direction, Franka Potente's forceful performance, and the thrilling techno soundtrack, which really makes it. Certainly worth 80 minutes of your time.

An admirable attempt to combine kineticism with a dissection of chance, but ends up being an interesting failure. On one hand, it doesn't feel kinetic enough for its breakneck storyline - say what you like about them, but a decade later directors Neveldine-Taylor of Crank 2 found how to do the effect properly. It also never succeeds in pulling the two strands together well. In the end, the philosophical aspect dangerously leads to potential sentimentality and an artificially sugared ending.

"Lola Rennt" is an explosive joint of adrenaline, a breathless, inventive and immensely watchable 80-minute thrill-ride. It's aggressively overdirected -and that's perhaps both the best and worst thing about it. Tykwer is so eager to include every showy cinematic technique that the film's visual palette seems overstuffed -but some of the stuff the camera does are undeniably impressive. The story is gimmicky and shallow perhaps, but always engaging and maybe even thought-provoking.

Like watching a 77 minute long music video; but seeing as I grew up watching MTV and listening to dance music, I can more than live with that. It absolutely hums with energy, style, and I think the butterfly-effect theme of small actions having wider repercussions was done very well; especially with the rapid-fire polaroid-futures of the strangers Lola bumps in to.
