Probably the best comedy/action/buddy/cop film starring a dancer and a comedian ever made. That doesn't mean it's a great film. It is a good film. It is worth renting. I love the bit with the "unmarked" police car.

R.S might have originally been conceived as a dramatic comedy about two male cops approaching middle age and looking for a career change and was later retooled to be a buddy cop film. Regardless, Crystal and Hines bounce off each other well, and Hyams' direction is typically competent. There is an extremely good car chase sequence along railway lines, but the overall tone is strangely subdued outside of action scenes. As far as buddy cop films go it's better than average, but it isn't top shelf.

One of the better films in the buddy cop genre, mainly due to the natural chemistry between Crystal and Hines. The comedy is down to earth and the action is surprisingly effective.

I really enjoyed this one. Hines & Crystal are amazing together throughout the whole thing, the script is laced with sharp dialogue & lots of well-delivered quips, the action is solid when it's there, & the comedy bits don't feel shoehorned in at all. The Key West montage was a hoot, & I really appreciated the running storyline of them wanting to retire. It comes as a bit of a surprise & makes things more interesting. Fun 80's buddy cop flick that gets the job done & makes itself memorable.

Pretty good mainstream comedy/cop-movie. Very MASH-like atmosphere. Moderately entertaining, but don't strain yourself to see it

Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines, the two most bizarre action stars in movie history, become partners in this buddy-cop trash. It will leave you begging for the likes of Van Damme.

Crystal and Hines are partners on the Chicago police force, rather bantam-cockish for that line of work -- but not for their more earnest vocation as a fast-patter comedy team. Loosey-goosiness is the order of the day; and suspense, when wanted, is impossible to summon. Crystal gets to do several vocal impressions, including Oliver Hardy. Hyams gets to do one of his wilder-than-William-Friedkin chase sequences: two cars on the el track. Hines does not get to dance.

Gregory Hines is a solid comedic actor and he and Crystal have some funny moments in this. If the action parts could be taken more seriously (as in Midnight Run), this could have been really good. Jimmy Smits was not a very good villain either.

Not earth-shattering, but an 80s comedy with some funny parts and some interesting set pieces.

This movie is nothing special and it goes on for to long. I only laughed at one joke. The villain is very boring in this movie.

Don't take it too seriously, and it can be a fun movie to watch.

Serviceable buddy cop movie. Crystal works better outside pure comedy.

Not particularly good, but you could do much worse. Definitely 80's and Billy Crystal's head looks 3 sizes too big for his body.

So-so buddy cop film but Billy Crystal does well to fill in the silence with his ever-present quips. The action sequences were really well done and I was surprised at their scale. The rest of the movie is rather forgettable, though I was thrown for a loop when they initially went off to Florida. I thought they were going to stay there with the awesome '80s bikinis. Fav scenes: subway chase/collision; undercover taxi being lifted by the garbage disposal truck.

A couple of interesting sequences that probably would have rocked my world as a kid. I like the sense of place and time. Chicago, Christmastime. And nothing looks like a set. However, it's peak cheesy without being funny or engaging. Every scene without action falls as flat as me teats. Could have been (very) dumb fun if they'd written situations around interesting characters instead of writing the action, then drawing two stick figures in.
