A past-his-prime white male frolicking about New York with an 11-year old Asian girl who's good at math? It's Woody Allen's life with 175% more fisticuffs.

Boaz Yakin has an interesting eye for action visuals but someone let him pen his own script which is a complete pile of dogshit. They cobbled together a cast that can speak authentic Mandarin Chinese along with subtitles which added absolutely nothing to the silly storyline. The Cop, Russian, and Chinese gangsters were all one dimensional violent cardboard cutouts for the ubermenschen Stratham who plays a super police assassin living as an MMA fighter/homeless bum to take down. Boring.

The typical Jason Statham film, kick ass and kick some more ass. I especially loved the ending fight scene, badass.

Wow, is this busy--as hyperactive an action flick as anything I've seen in some time. Holy crap, there are gunfights. And car chases. And people running after each other. And surly-looking foreign guys hanging around in musty back rooms. And a camera that bounces around like a toddler on a trampoline. And not a lick of sense. Statham's transformation into a modern-day Charles Bronson is now pretty much complete.

It takes about a half hour to set up the story, before launching head first into an hour long chase/fight scene that only slows down a couple of times long enough to catch your breath. There's some pretty hard hitting hand to hand, and quite a lot of chaotic gunplay in 3 and 4 way shootouts. Statham is in full on badass mode, and he straight up murders dozens of gangsters by shooting them in the face. Standard Statham fare, but with nastier violence and a higher body count.

Yakin spends the first half-hour saying "look at all the baddies Jason's going to kill later" & then spends the rest of the movie saying "I told you so". Yakin has a good eye for action, but he pulled the script for this right out of his arsehole! It's painful to listen to. That said, I can't say I didn't enjoy myself; watching Jason clean up America by killing all those Commie's, Chinamen, bent cops & a gay! I look forward to a sequel, where I assume Arab's will be shaking in their boots.

Forgettable but I've seen worse. Disappointing that all the one liners were in the trailer, I wanted more. Jason Statham is great as usual, the guy was just made for film. Glad that the child actor wasn't featured too heavily because 99% of all child actors are god awful and she was no different. Statham's motivation at the end didn't really make sense either but whatever he beats the shit out of like 100 chinaman so it was cool

Statham's best IMHO, primarily because it was a good story with great gun battles in a 4 sided war (Statham being one of the sides). I don't know where they keep coming up with these great kid actors, and her character gave the plot a depth it wouldn't have otherwise had.

Jason Statham movies are to 18-35-year-old white males as Tyler Perry movies are to middle-aged black women. I am a 26-year-old male.

Yeah, I know what you're going to say.. just an average shoot em up movie. But I dont agree. This movie is better than most shoot em ups because in this movie the enemies not only fight the hero, they also fight each other which brings a whole new concept to your standard action movie. Loved it!

Statham is a few steps away from Seagal and Van Damme territory, that is, the straight to video market. Every single villain was a cartoony stereotype and worse than that, most were portrayed by either horrible actors or foreigners with bad English accents.

I don't blame metacritic for guessing a 57 score. I'd guess the same, if not lower, but I actuallly thought this was OK. What I liked: no fat; and the pacing. The characters/actors aren't very interesting; the ation set-pieces aren't especially memorable; but this is a lean, mean action machine of a movie, and I appreciated that. ps57

exposition was a little long, though rushed, and a little obvious, but: great plot, awesome direction (esp. action direction), great camerawork and editing...let's just call it an awesome movie and stop right there. :D

'Safe' does low-rent action incredibly well. This is a hard-edged flick---well shot, 'adequately' acted, and awesome to the core. This is also Jason Statham's best action movie---trumping the cartoon fisticuffs found in his Transporter flicks. Granted, 'Safe' is not great by action standards, but it's definitely entertaining.

Really liked it. I like that it was so messy. Like Stewball said, there's a 4 sided war, and it's pretty much right from the beginning so instead of just Statham/kid vs Evil Bad Guys, everyone's shootin' at everyone. The little girl gave a good performance, the action was intense and interesting. And honestly, some of the scenes made me crack up (sandwich, running over guy, bashing Russian head in car). Some of these scenes have been done before but Safe handled some differently.

A Jason Statham movie about a young girl with a "computer-like" mind when it comes to remembering numbers. This poor girl is passed around between the Chinese mob, Russian Mob and Crooked cops of NYC. Statham is the only person just protecting her after his wife is murdered. This isn't the best Statham movie I've seen. He did put some good beatdowns on people and he had some good one-liners. The little girl Catherine Chan was quite cute and did a very good job. A decent but forgettable film.

So sentimental that it builds to a duel that never happens because the girl shoots the Statham-like ex-partner and then Statham kills him. A post-9/11 actioner led by the most depressed character of Statham's career, an outcast turned boxer who lost his wife, wanders in the streets avoiding human connection -- otherwise a russian will do the killing -- and finds hope for a new life through the eyes of a chinese girl. Before starting all over again he just needs to slaughter dozens of guys first.

This movie had an interesting premise about a man and a mysterious girl, except her mysteries are revealed in the first minute. The resulting 1.5 hrs of gunfights, most of which question not only the protagonists intelligence and need to run from the cops. With an anticlimax to the point of hilarity, this movie works hard to ensure any redeeming qualities have been bleached out of this horrifically uninspired and cheap wannabe broody gunner flick.

Statham is his traditional bad-ass self, killing hordes or Russians and Chinese. There is depth to the narrative that deserved a bit more explanation. Build up is better than expected, but finale is less impressive. Still this is the movie to watch for those choreographed fights and shoot-outs.

Not only does this Statham-customized old-school New York crime thriller feature whiplash, blood-splattering, hard-R action as disbursed by a ballsy, hard-hitting filmmaker who works way too little, but it does so with crisp virility and inventiveness that is very refreshing, and which sparks cutting-edge visual scope that draws us deeper into the whirlwind center of the breakneck violence and wholesales the brutality of the countless action sequences.

Sui generis it ain't, but action movies that are vivid, lean, and muscular get bonus points from me. The script is almost comically hoary, but the shortcuts it takes are often in service of easily gauged characterization and motivation.

An amusing enough little burst of action hokum. The plethora of villains make it hard to really engage with any one, though they do provide a sense of menace lurking everywhere. The closest thing to a "final boss" battle is uninspiring, but there's a very cool scene involving a raid into an enemy base. Jason Statham punches many dudes.

There is too much going on for a movie as short as this one. It does a lot of the same overused tropes and has some editing flair but Statham seems to phone this one in. Yakin seems a decent director but needs a better writer and editor to make this memorable.

Ugly, miserable, nonsensical, and absurdly violent neo-noir made watchable by a couple of priceless lead performances from Statham and Chan. Reminds me of late 80s HK action flicks which were also violent and nonsensical, though more fun than this. Music by Mark Mothersbaugh??? Guess I need to watch it (or at least listen) again. Also has the best climactic fight scene ever.
