I agree with the bad scores but enjoyed how ridiculous it was. A medley of previous Herzog motifs: airplanes, aliens, volcanos, blindness, perspective, magnets, mountain-climbing. The dialogue is obnoxious and story is nonsensical, but the visuals and music did a lot for me.

Deserto em Fogo estreava há 5anos no Brasil. Tô tentando entender até agora o porquê de todo mundo odiar esse filme, a única explicação que me veio é que estão tão acostumado ao Herzog só fazer obras-primas que quando ele faz um filme mediano acham que é uma bomba. BlurayRip no MakingOff.

Herzog continues his narrative losing streak with this silly environmentally themed bore. The expository dialogue reeks of stale cheese, and it's delivered in a wooden manner by the cast, especially by Ferris who is really bad in the lead role. The tone is wobbly, and even Shannon turns in a crap performance. The footage of the Bolivian salt flats is, at times, visually interesting, but it's in service of an unengaging, poorly written story filmed like a collection of first takes.

What the hell was that? On some levels I can relate to the low ratings here. The dialogues, the acting (Herzog casts Ferres; what a time to be alive!) and the plot were just bad. But the camera work and the lighting gave the movie such a surreal atmosphere that I really enjoyed it for most of the runtime. It touches on one of Herzog's favorite topic, the experience of nature and its destructive force that is. But then there is the plot again. But still, I can only recommend this one!

Absolutely atrocious. It's confusing and boring and messy and often poorly acted. Only points are for a few humorous lines and Michael Shannon, even though even he is way sub par here.

Herzogian dialogue is best heard from the man himself, questioning whatever subject is at the center of his documentary. Throw these words into Michael Shannon's mouth and it is beyond campy. A non-sensical narrative doesn't help, but expecting an existential meaning to this film that is even close to passable is reaching. A surprising misfire for Herzog.

Not so bad it's good because it's pieced together too well; it gets the basics of filmmaking right, meaning there's a cohesiveness here most of the time. It's straight up bad because the dialogue, plot and acting is complete nonsense, with them clearly stating intentions/personality traits, or acting way too (ridiculously) polite. They say they won't do things then do it, they're taking her to a place she was going to go anyway. I laughed. Ending is hilarious, last 30 mins was boring though.

Herzog makes a deliberately unconventional fiction; the first 40 minutes are decent (well directed, edited); the conclusion makes it a very romantic movie, with very romantic intentions by Shannon's character, trying to show that there's a hidden reality behind data, reports, alleged information; but this moving reality behind data, that the movie tries to present, doesn't look convincingly moving, so, acting, emotions all that surrounds the goal of the movie isn't convincing; great soundtrack.
